Apres Ski

Anyone recall this band? Vocalist was Paul somebodyorother, he had a DEEP bass voice. They only realesed on or two 12"s circa the early-mid 80s. Paul (?) was slated to do vox on one of Vince Clarke's singles under "The Assembly", but I'm uncertain as to whether it actually happened. AMG states that the only single which surfaced was with Feargal Sharkey (The Undertones), but I think this may be incorrect. Anyone? -jeff

You may be thinking of Bourgie Bourgie, with vocalist Paul Quinn who had a single named Apres Ski. There were two BB singles, I have them on 7" and dunno about 12" versions.

I saw Paul Quinn and Alan Horne shopping in my local safeways the other week.

I went looking for a web reference of Bourgie BOurgie info for you, including the Paul Quinn / Vince Clarke thing and didn't find anything. I did find this http://www.cherryred.co.uk/books/indiehits/j.htm

Which states Paul Haig was in Bourgie Bourgie and Paul Quinn was in Josef K. It is wrong.

You, sir, WIN. It is indeed Paul Quinn and it was indeed Bourgie Bourgie and the record WAS Apres Ski. Thankee indeed. -jeff (at 45, my memory fails...)

The Vince Clarke/ Paul Quinn single is called "One Day" and it came out in '85. It was post-Assemby/Yazoo, pre-Erasure. Billed simply as Vince Clarke and Paul Quinn. And I'd really love to hear it someday. One internet discography site listed him as a former member of Oran Juice Jones. Haw.

Quinn also made a few terrific singles with Edwyn Collins, the best being "Ain't That Always the Way." Haven't heard his recent stuff with his band The Independent Group, but they released an album called Will I Ever Be Inside You in '95.

Yes indeedy. I do believe the Quinn/Clarke project was originally slated for release as "The Assembly". I used to have it (as well as many other things I have regrettably sold), but hopefully shall own it again soon as I spotted several copies available via GEMM (yes...I know GEMM is a crapshoot). I also ordered both Bourgie Bourgie 12"s plus all of the Quinn projects mentioned above - all of which I used to own. It feels like coming home... :-) Thanks for all of the input! -jeff

two years pass...
Bourgie Bourgie released the monster single "Breaking Point" - the 12 inch version which is just jaw-droppingly fantastic. I have one copy that I purchsed for 99 cents back in the 80's, which is one of my favortie secret finds. The b-side "Apres Ski" was a neigborhood favorite too, as we headed out onto the freeway drive into LA for some Friday night clubbing. Perfect slab o' wax!!

one year passes...
Have just come across this message board - I have both of their UK 12" releases - Breaking Point and the follow up Careless - don't think that either of the a-side or in fact any of the b-sides have turned up on CD anywhere......shame ..... great live band they were - saw them twice, once in newcastle and once in Liverpool ....
