The best part of that crappy movie "The Postman" was when Kevin Costner met Tom Petty:

"Hey, I know you... you're famous!"

"Nah man... you're famous."

In fact, that's the only part of the film I remember.

There are lots and lots (and lots) of books like this! My favorite music-related thing among them is in Alejo Carpentier's The Lost Steps, though it's not pop -- it's Beethoven's ninth as stand-in for Euro civilization.
