Remember when it was cool for rock bands to repeat their names all the time live and in their songs? Imagine it now.

I missed that part, except for the Blues Explosion, I guess (which is more of a case of opting out than not knowing).

Da Na Not! (donut), Friday, 10 March 2006 07:15 (twenty years ago)

There was also that Scene From A Movie By Quentin Tarantino thing that bands did, like The Drags and The Delta 72 and the International Noise Conspiracy. "It's about you, it's about us, it's about all of us together, but most importantly, it's about the MUSIC!" Ah cha cha cha, brutha!

Da Na Not! (donut), Friday, 10 March 2006 07:19 (twenty years ago)

MY NAME IS KID ROOOOOOOOOOCCCCCCCCCCCCCK!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 10 March 2006 15:07 (twenty years ago)

This would best be adopted by the nü-emo (nümo?) bands with incredibly long names (that make people whose stylebooks make them spell out the whole names at least once in the review cry because they're wasting words) like I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness.

js (honestengine), Friday, 10 March 2006 16:37 (twenty years ago)

My favourite example of this is Don Covay's "Stop By" where he's like, "All you have to do, girl, is remember my name: DON COVAY"

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 10 March 2006 16:38 (twenty years ago)

What the hell is going on here?

Rev. Hoodoo (Rev. Hoodoo), Sunday, 12 March 2006 04:45 (twenty years ago)

Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy singing
To put anybody down.
We're just tryin' to be friendly,
Come and watch us sing and play,
We're the young generation,
And we've got something to say.

I think Jonathan Richman is the king of this, even more than Jon Spencer. He probably names himself in 30 or 40 songs and almost every album title is "Jonathan does something", "Jonathan goes somewhere", "blah blah blah with Jonathan" etc.
