methinks like Felt cross OTC

winter testing (winter testing), Friday, 10 March 2006 21:45 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
I saw them in the Adelphi couple of weeks ago as part of the Hull Fire mini-festival thing. Some really good songs in a lo-fi, instrument-swappy kinda way but then again everything sounds lo-fi at the Adelphi, it's that kind of place... Not sure about your Felt reference however there's definite hint of C86 about them (this is a good thing)... definitely worth keeping an eye on, has anything been recorded?

eleven months pass...
anybody else heard or seen the Rocky Nest? Definitely my favourite local band of the past year ( local being Hull, UK ) Ok they're mates of mine and so I'm probably biased, but I think they're onto something pretty special. Some home recordings are online at http://www.myspace.com/therockynest .

too many Toms round our way, but it's Dan, yes? if so then I probably already owe you a pint :-) what do you think to the Apparat album?

certainly not Duplex pt.2. kind of feels like it lacks a consistent aesthetic to glue it all together a bit, a few vocal tracks but doesn't really feel vocal driven exactly, but not 'ambient' or overly/excessively IDM/Glitch, kinda has that To Rococo Rot feel... Adult-Orientated Electronica?

I'm not sure I dig it that much (on first impressions) but I'm giving it some more listens, it's 'not bad' y'know?

I haven't really changed my mind yet (erm... 'cos I haven't kept it around) but it probably does deserve a few more listens than the two or three I gave it to begin with... there's a thread here too. It wasn't really grabbing me tbh. I have my head far too much into the new Melt-Banana right now for anything so calm unfortunately, that might have something to do with it!

fandango, Thursday, 3 May 2007 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

oh, and yes it is dan ;)

re Walls, currently on 2nd listen - kinda underwhelmed first time on the train, especially by the vocal tracks, but sounds a little better now as background to work. As ever, listening depends on the environment...

Probably shouldn't be derailing the Rocky Nest shameless plug thread to talk about Apparat though!

tom, Thursday, 3 May 2007 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

who the hell are OTC btw?

fandango, Thursday, 3 May 2007 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

Olivia Tremor Control ( yes I did write the original post) ;) Not sure if the comparison still holds, but I do think the Nest have something of the Elephant 6 bands about them.

one year passes...

Can I shamelessplug properly now I've joined the band please?
