I am looking for tracks that have a spooky organ running through them, in a David Lynch kinda way. Any suggestions?

Badalementi uses primarily synthesizers.

The Lynch bit was just a suggestion of the feel I was looking for, not a concrete example. I should made that a bit clearer.

Carnival of Souls soundtrack ( I think still in print on Birdman )

microtonal organ improvisations, great record

you need the vinyl though, the CD only keeps the mellow tracks, omitting the demons

(if the link ever goes dead, it's a picture of Keith Jarrett's Hymns / Spheres

"I'll Take Care of You" by Bobby Bland

The Carnival of Souls soundtrack is available on eMusic.

Not as melodic, but Hermann Nitsch's organ work is quite unsettling.

"The Marilyn Monroe-Memorial-Church" from Amon Duul II's "Tanz der Lemminge".

try the caretaker stuff over on v/vm - it's called 'haunted ballroom' and is old 30s records treated to sound, er, haunted. he's just put second cd ('stairway to the stars') up for free download rather than re-pressing it. might be more 'atmospheric' than 'spooky' but...

pram had a track that was called 'carnival of souls' on the 'music for your movies' ep that might qualify.

The third installment of "Inzane Podcasts" by John Olsen from Wolf Eyes is ALL spooky organ: www.inzane.podomatic.com

Franz Ferdinand - Fade Together (piano, but still eerie)

Clinic - No particular song, but they use a lot of organ

Radiohead - Various stuff

Sorry I couldnt be of more help, though I'd love to hear responses from others too, as I'm a big fan of eerie organ also.

Good luck,

- e

There's a track on DJ Shadow's "Endtroducing..", called "Organ Donor," I think, that features some creepy organ. It's sampled from somewhere else, obvs, but who knows where.

Spookiest organ = Oliver Messaien!

You might like Morte Macabre's "Symphonic Holocaust". A one-off sideproject of members from Anekdoten and Landberk, with two (or is it three?) mellotrons plus some rock instruments. All but one track are covers of horror movie themes. It doesn't have any sexy swing though.

I suppose Goblin would be a fair recommendation as well, though I don't care to listen to their music outside of the movies myself.

Here's a YSI of the opening track from that MM album: Apoteosi del Mistero (by Fabio Frizzi, for the movie "City of the Living Dead")

Øystein (Øystein), Sunday, 12 March 2006 09:54 (twenty years ago)

I'm working on getting Goblin as my ringtone.

Any soundtrack by Dario Argento (synth, but definitely spooky).

Certain Bach organ things like "Toccata & Fugue in G" (or whatever key it is) always strike me as kinda sinister, altho they come off as mere monster-movie kitsch.
