so, i was driving into cleveland tonight and i heard a song on 107.9 fm (cleveland's hip-hop station), but i missed the intro and they never said its name afterwards. it was an extremely minimal hip-hop song, built on a mid-to-low range piano, non-808 handclaps (they may not have been sampled), and sometimes some simple drumming (usually just a kick). i don't remember any of the lyrics, but i do remember that it had multiple emcees on a lot of the lines. totally awesome. the piano really struck me because i don't think i've heard that range of the piano used rhythmically in hip-hop or any other kind of electronic music. i thought of the neptunes but i don't think they're this creative. maybe i'm wrong.

it's almost certainly new, because this station doesn't play much music more than one or two years old, especially on a saturday night.

well, i heard 'no mo play in ga' for the first time today, on your recommendation. i guess it probably sounded creative when it came out five years ago, but i didn't really like it.
