oh... anticipate with me!

or just tell me what you know 'bout it. Probably all over YSIS33k right now but I haven't heard it yet at least.

First single "The Operator" is much more uptempo than usual! So happy! So on the right side of twee.

Gives me the kind of simply pathetic lose my shit fizzy giggling wave your hands all about joy Arctic Monkeys... don't.

I didn't think I had room for this in my life, but it's a pretty undeniable can't hold a grudge choooon (babs, always with the killer melodies).

I'm excited.

Jacobs (LolVStein), Monday, 13 March 2006 01:14 (twenty years ago)

I am stoked for this, she is my favorite artist

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Monday, 13 March 2006 01:49 (twenty years ago)

'tesri' was one of my favourite lps of last year, so i'm really looking forward to this

zappi (joni), Monday, 13 March 2006 01:54 (twenty years ago)

great news, fandango.

jergins (jergins), Monday, 13 March 2006 02:23 (twenty years ago)

Lots more acoustic piano all over this album... It has already leaked as you predict. I like it thus far but haven't fallen head-over-heels.

Myke. (Myke Weiskopf), Monday, 13 March 2006 03:27 (twenty years ago)

Barbara Morgenstern is amazing, but have you noticed that her remixes tend to be Tiga-esque ... by that I mean she feels compelled to put her own vocals in somewhere. Hmm. Not that I don't LOVE her vocals. Honestly. She's got a beautiful voice.

But what's up with privileging presence, via vocals, in techno lately? So many vocals tracks. I dunno. I kinda like the anonymity beyond the aesthetic in techno.

Really psyched to hear this though!

Cameron Octigan (Cameron Octigan), Monday, 13 March 2006 05:57 (twenty years ago)

"Der Augenblick" was a killer jam.

bobby.lasers (bobby.lasers), Monday, 13 March 2006 14:44 (twenty years ago)

But what's up with privileging presence, via vocals, in techno lately?

the bold legacy of Eurotrance

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Monday, 13 March 2006 14:53 (twenty years ago)

I was in one of those ready-to-fall asleep moments and trying to locate this melody.. where it came from??

It clicked after a while that one of the little 30 second previews on Boomkat off this newie had just xeroxed itself, in full, right onto my brain without me even noticing :-O

this albums fuckin ace btw. tails off a bit towards the end but the first half is the best stuff shes done.

zappi (joni), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 21:38 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
Yes, album is nice, and the single "The Operator" is great, very addictive listening

Dominique (dleone), Sunday, 16 April 2006 21:16 (twenty years ago)

I love her jumps from German to English and back, within songs. it seems like it'd be awkward, but it's not.

jergins (jergins), Sunday, 16 April 2006 22:47 (twenty years ago)

Extremely good album, yes indeed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 16 April 2006 23:24 (twenty years ago)

how does it compare to her earlier stuff?

breakfast pants (disco stu), Monday, 17 April 2006 01:54 (twenty years ago)

i don't think it's nearly as good as 'nichts muss'! i do find the jumps between german and english within a single song weird and a little disruptive to the flow. some of the songs sound thin, as if they're aching for fuller, more lush orchestration. and the piano/keyboard playing on some of the tracks could be better. it sounds more like sketches for an album than a full album to me.

geeta (geeta), Monday, 17 April 2006 02:04 (twenty years ago)

that's kind of how tesri felt to me, but i think that's also because i was so blown away by the first single that she and lippok did.

breakfast pants (disco stu), Monday, 17 April 2006 02:17 (twenty years ago)

This is much better than Tesri and very nearly as good as Nichts Muss. Geeta you gotta keep listening and have faith, it's really very directed toward a special mood - brighter & calmer than Nichts Muss, really positive for lack of a better term

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Monday, 17 April 2006 02:20 (twenty years ago)

I can't get around the cutesiness here ... not my type of twee, I suppose. I also prefer the big Coldplay piano moments to the chirpy bleepy moments, which leads me to believe that there's something fundamental about BM that I don't understand.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Monday, 17 April 2006 03:59 (twenty years ago)

Fjorden >> Nichts Muss

Still looking forward to this anyway, not listening in advance for a change.

fandango (fandango), Monday, 17 April 2006 10:12 (twenty years ago)

I can't stop listening to this... I should be in bed, but I can't even touch the CD player right now.. (I just bought this earlier today.)

DOQQUN (donut), Friday, 28 April 2006 08:30 (twenty years ago)

Making a Severed Heads comparison would seem initially silly, as the tunes between Ellard and Morgenstern have nothing in common.. however, the two certainly spend a LOT of time on songcraft.. the layering, the really odd chord changes, progressions, the collision of resonance and dissonance of chords... Stuff like this really evades the already stupid "anybody can make this" argument about electronic music.

DOQQUN (donut), Friday, 28 April 2006 08:33 (twenty years ago)

"Alles Was Lebt Bewegt Sich"...!! There is just not one even slightly mediocre song on this... not relenting.

DOQQUN (donut), Friday, 28 April 2006 08:36 (twenty years ago)

why do i keep thinking "Green Grass of Tunnel" ... ?

Cameron Octigan (Cameron Octigan), Friday, 28 April 2006 09:00 (twenty years ago)

i've just reviewed this for uncut. it's a really lovely record. not quite as good as nicts muss, but still one of my favourite non-reggae releases of the past few months.

sfx, Friday, 28 April 2006 09:14 (twenty years ago)

I miss her trademark organ.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 28 April 2006 20:31 (twenty years ago)

so she's touring with the mountain goats.....sounds like a 'must see'.

drone/a/sore (drone/a/sore), Friday, 28 April 2006 21:21 (twenty years ago)

btw donut....where did you find it [the new cd]?

drone/a/sore (drone/a/sore), Friday, 28 April 2006 21:38 (twenty years ago)

I'm glad I'm finally warming up to this even though I still miss the (M)organ(stern).

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 6 May 2006 03:58 (twenty years ago)

looong xpost to drone/a/sore : easy street in seattle.

DOQQUN (donut), Saturday, 6 May 2006 07:10 (twenty years ago)

really, someone do yourselves a favour... I never really clicked with the album which I apparently statred this thread about tbh...

but sorta curious about the new one?

fandango, Thursday, 18 September 2008 20:28 (seventeen years ago)

yey new album BM released 31st October, guest appearance by Robert Wyatt! she's also playing some dates in the UK (Stirling wtf?), which she usually avoids. Single "Come To Berlin" sounds promising http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=136199

zappi, Thursday, 25 September 2008 09:19 (seventeen years ago)

i dl'd 'Come To Berlin'. sounds great but is it like a new 'Expo 2000' promotional type thing or wuht?

They're a '90s odd couple. And an odds-on choice for laughs. (blueski), Thursday, 25 September 2008 11:24 (seventeen years ago)

ooh: brooklyn date in two or three weeks.
i think last time she was in scotland she played with the pastels, and she's done stuff with bill wells before, so stirling isn't so weird.

schlump, Thursday, 25 September 2008 13:28 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

not really clicking with "BM" that much either sadly... I was thinking about seeing her live not so sure now (foolish probably).

fandango, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 01:16 (seventeen years ago)

i know what you mean - the first half has some good songs, but its really badly produced or arranged or something - "Deine Geschichte" for example has a great tune but sounds a mess. no vinyl edition either which probably makes financial sense as its only going to annoy me, probably.

zappi, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 01:25 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, i am disappointingly not feeling this so far :(. it's not even that i am or amn't disappointed, just that i have no desire to really explore it. nichts muss particularly is such a great lp to have on headphones walking around, but this one doesn't seem to have any of the rhythm or click to it. maybe it's like watching powaqaatsi after seeing koyaanisqatsi, when you're looking for something that isn't there.

i saw her in brooklyn a month or two ago. it was pretty strange.

schlump, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 02:45 (seventeen years ago)

Barbara still brings it live IMHO. Don't miss the live show. You'll kick yourself.

HI, YOUR BAND! (Mackro Mackro), Wednesday, 19 November 2008 02:45 (seventeen years ago)

did anyone read that WIRE interview with gudrun gut? it really intrigued me about this chick, who, to be honest diane, I don't really know anything about.

I know, right?, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 02:46 (seventeen years ago)
