Carefully phrased.

that last sentence can not be

bangelo (bangelo), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 22:36 (twenty years ago)

"With inciteful lyrics married to poignant melodies and danceable beats, the Pet Shop Boys's approach to music seems Fundamental-ly sound."

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 23:12 (twenty years ago)

"Performing hits like "Be All, End All" and "Indians," Anthrax transported the sold-out crowd into a State of Euphoria."

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 23:13 (twenty years ago)

"Bubba Sparxxx's plainspoken and often moving lyrics could be the Deliverance of a hip-hop scene weighed down with too much bling-bling bluster."

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 23:48 (twenty years ago)

at least dude didnt actually attribute my NAME in the piece, what a fucking douche

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 23:49 (twenty years ago)

wow, this guy managed to put his name to an eleven paragraph article and somehow only wrote maybe three paragraphs of his own. what a pro.

spastic heritage (spastic heritage), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 00:12 (twenty years ago)

I don't really understand much about this here thread, but I will say that anyone who drooled over "Feels" deserves a smack in the face and all of AC's back catalogue.

trees (treesessplode), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 00:28 (twenty years ago)

what if you already had all of their back catalog before drooling over feels?

spastic heritage (spastic heritage), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 00:31 (twenty years ago)

does anyone read Slant Magazine?
-- youth problem (androidgynou...), March 14th, 2006 5:47 PM. (later) (link)

Dr. Morbius does!

(And I do sometimes, too, because Eric H. writes for them.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 00:31 (twenty years ago)

xpost: i could probably go for that slap in the face, though.

spastic heritage (spastic heritage), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 00:32 (twenty years ago)

did he just steal quotes, or what? i'm not in the mood to read them side to side, but nice piece from what i've skimmed:

gritty sanskrit (sanskrit), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 00:42 (twenty years ago)

You know you've made it when they write about you in Tucson.

Sean Braudis (Sean Braudis), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 00:46 (twenty years ago)

in other news, Justin Warfield is in a band(She Wants Revenge, linked to in that story up top). Anyone heard it?

tremendoid (tremendoid), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 01:25 (twenty years ago)

hahaha OOPS. He has a half-decent single to his credit(10 years ago), I I should have left it at that.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 02:18 (twenty years ago)

Yes indeed, my friend. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 02:21 (twenty years ago)

THAT HAS TO BE THE BEST FEEL-ING IN THE WORLD

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 02:26 (twenty years ago)

he did a good remix for the boo radleys.

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 02:27 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait I heard them sing that one song on Letterman last week! I SORT OF LIKED IT! In a not-annoyed kind of way. I would still enjoy being part of your backlash if you'll have me.(assuming there is a forelash)

tremendoid (tremendoid), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 02:30 (twenty years ago)

how come ned doesn't flip out when dan starts yet another animal collective thread, but is normally a nazi re: duplicate threads?

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 02:31 (twenty years ago)

I AM THE NAZI WITH THE HEART OF GOLD. Also, this is not a thread so much about AC as it is the poor journalistic endeavour linked in the initial post. (Admittedly I think it equals the subject matter.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 02:33 (twenty years ago)

Michael Petitti on guess-who: "They could be around a while because, apparently, they're not monkeying around."

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 02:34 (twenty years ago)

it's sort of like if Dylan Hicks's Gene Shalit impersonation came to life: http://blogs.citypages.com/ctg/2006/02/minneapolis_man.asp

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 02:37 (twenty years ago)

*Slap* There you go, spastic.

I didn't say before that the shows that I have copies of from the Spring 05 tour--including the show I saw them at, featured on the UK 'Feels' Bonus disc, lf recorded it--are amazing. 'Feels' sounded so good live that the record was a total letdown. That and it was smooth as butter, which is not what I am looking for in AC.

trees (treesessplode), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 02:42 (twenty years ago)

(I think most of the articles I've read on AC are lacking in some way, so I've stopped reading them. For the most part)

trees (treesessplode), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 02:45 (twenty years ago)

'Feels' sounded so good live that the record was a total letdown.

the kids they dance and shake their bones..

gritty sanskrit (sanskrit), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 03:06 (twenty years ago)

jesus
In an interview with Baltimore City Paper (whose quotes appear in this article)
ummm....
shouldnt he mention the carelessly reworded sentences from a certain bmore writer draped around said quotes in a cursory manner as to render the TW article useless when divorced from the fact that its plagiarism.

i mean, yeah, probably 10 people give a slight fuck what the tukson weekly has to say about music, but it scares me that people are actually getting paid for this and it must happen ALL THE TIME...
i wonder if the lenience shown towards good ol sylvest has given people some balls to go out and plagiarize/destroy an article.

'Feels' sounded so good live that the record was a total letdown. That and it was smooth as butter, which is not what I am looking for in AC.

fuckin otm, btw

capnkickass (gloriagaynor), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 03:17 (twenty years ago)

i did prefer the way they were playing the feels stuff live ("banshee beat," especially), i must admit.

spastic heritage (spastic heritage), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 03:23 (twenty years ago)

I will say that anyone who drooled over "Feels" deserves a smack in the face and all of AC's back catalogue.

yeah dude they were soo much cooler before they got popular

ass in the hat, Wednesday, 15 March 2006 04:38 (twenty years ago)

i've said it before, and i'll say it again: the only good animal collective record is "campfire songs."

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 04:44 (twenty years ago)

I like the last one but ian is basically OTM.

electrogrouse (haitch), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 13:35 (twenty years ago)

Which poster is Ian?

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:15 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, this thread was less about Animal Collective and more about the precocious eighth-grader who wrote the article. This doesn't mean anyone should stop talking about Animal Collective; that's probably more interesting for a larger group of people.

Dan (I Write Pretty One Day) Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:34 (twenty years ago)

if anybody sees this dude: nard shots...plenty of 'em...feel-ing.mmmmrrh

bb (bbrz), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:39 (twenty years ago)

(hahaha OMG I should really stop writing like a buddyesque version of Ned)

Dan (Biting Styles By The Miles) Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:50 (twenty years ago)

it's funny to imagine the writer showing up to an animal collective show and giving people winks and nudging them with his elbow when he says he's really feel-ing the show. but then maybe he goes home afterwards and takes a bunch of painkillers to ease his suffering. then it's not so funny.

Dominique (dleone), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:53 (twenty years ago)

i think that's what WOULD make it funny, though. sad bastards. in life. are funny.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:58 (twenty years ago)

(hahaha OMG I should really stop writing like a buddyesque version of Ned)

It all comes out at once with you!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 15:01 (twenty years ago)

I am disappointed that neither the article nor this thread has anything to do with Animal Collective doing prop comedy.

this article does a lot of the same shit, it's kind of funny to try and keep track:
http://www.tucsonweekly.com/gbase/Music/Content?oid=oid%3A79284

"The quote was too good not to repeat. It appears, along with the rest of the story from the Sheffield Rock Times, on the band's Web site and has since migrated to several other publications."

"Sadly, it wasn't possible to interview either Warfield or Adam 12 (born Adam Bravin) for this article. It's been written that..."

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Pfft. How appropriate a band as well.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 15:23 (twenty years ago)

"So, fellows, squeeze into those polyester pants, and ladies, button up those pantsuits--it's time to "Get Dancin'."

is this guy for real?

o -- (eman), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 15:26 (twenty years ago)

Well, you can catch it down at the "YMCA" when you "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty" in a "Celebration" of your inner "Dancing Queen" (or King).

sung tongs >>>> campfire songs

pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Mark: Special Agent Gene Krupa = Ian.

Pete (Mark: pssst - badass revolutionary art! = Pete): OTM.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:26 (twenty years ago)

i have only heard sung tongs and the new one and i couldn't get thru either of them. i had to turn them off. doesn't exactly make me want to delve any deeper.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:37 (twenty years ago)

sung tongs appeared to me like a series of islands in a draining ocean. as the waters of my foolishly limited perception receded, the mountains of song-genius loomed over the now-ground. initially, only a few songs breached the surface, but soon there were as many monolithic towers as there are sides of a dodecagon.

pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:43 (twenty years ago)

scott, you mght like campfire songs. it's a drone album, really.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:47 (twenty years ago)

campfire songs is really good, its true.

pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:47 (twenty years ago)

"A whip-smart approach to 'undie' rap coupled with a pirate's treasure of hardcore pornography give Kool Keith, aka Dr Dooom, a fresh and unique perspective on a genre that has worn out it's welcome on this listener's ears."

harshaw (jube), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 17:01 (twenty years ago)

nice.. my initial reaction to the album was, wtf is this childish hippy crap? then one or two songs revealed themselves, then weeks later everything came into full view.

gritty sanskrit (sanskrit), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 17:04 (twenty years ago)

I like how this thread is the war between 'disgust over bad journalism' and 'so about AC, then.'

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 17:05 (twenty years ago)

bad journalism already has a thread, and it is about nick sylvester.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 17:08 (twenty years ago)

you either support terror or were mildly disappointed with feels, ned.

harshaw (jube), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 17:13 (twenty years ago)

You're selling out over delivery of Sung Tongs via Dubai!
