Baxter Wingnut, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Once upon a time, it was Blues Traveler.

Daver, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was going to mention the Shaggs, but I just took a quick look at the album cover and the Wiggin sisters were not quite as hefty as I remembered. So, we'll say the Minutemen, just for D. Boon.

Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Crowbar immediately came to my mind as well.

Yancey, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mountain!

I think the Booyas get it, but I'll nominate Bachman Turner Overdrive 'cause I remember someone once referring to them as Bachman Turner Overweight.

william harris, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There was a metal band called Mammoth, which the major selling point was that they were all of Mammoth proportions.

Billy Dods, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Chubby Checker and the Fat Boys!

jel --, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

electric sound of jim, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Most of the guys in Crowbar are as big or bigger than Tad. And a lot cooler. They make "Dream Weaver" good.

adam, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually only the guitarist and the singer of Poison Idea were really large. One of their bassists was a skinny 15 year old kid. Still legend has it that Poison Idea were unable to do a lot of nation-wide tours of the US, because most club stages could not support their weight. Probably not true but I remember being really impressed when I heard it.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'd say Heart but the one sister (the one married to Cameron Crowe) got skinny again.

Dave Beckhouse, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Has to be the Weathergirls.

Judd Nelson, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Did anyone see The Weathergirls on TOTP2 today?
Yeah. Then we were all transported to a Bad Acid Trip to Geisha Hell with Toyah.

Nathalie, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jim Morrison, just because he got so fat so quickly.

Johnathan, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude, none of these bands are even close to Poison Idea. Jerry A and Pig Champion look like those two motorcycle dudes in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Kris, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Heavy D was pretty big, too, but I guess he's not a band.

nickn, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the beach boys.

Once upon a time, it was Blues Traveler.
By the same logic, Wilson Phillips are out of the running.

Steph (Steph), Monday, 14 October 2002 07:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm waiting for the 300+ lb. hip-hop scene to take off... We got Joe and Pun breaking the ground, now we need the army. There really needs to be a glutton war.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 14 October 2002 18:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 16 January 2003 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)
