Pete Scholtes (Pete Scholtes), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 22:54 (nineteen years ago)

Is Chris not going to play the drums?

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 23:05 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and FUCK YEAH!

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 23:05 (nineteen years ago)

WHERE'S SLIM DUNLAP?
(seriously. I was just wondering about him a couple of days ago)

Mike Dixn (Mike Dixon), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 23:11 (nineteen years ago)

Man, that Josh Freese is absolutely everywhere these days. If he isn't working with Devo, then it's with Sting, or it's Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle, or it's The Vandals, the Indigo Girls, and now the reunited Replacements. The guy is everywhere, isn't he?

baht, Tuesday, 28 March 2006 23:17 (nineteen years ago)

i really don't get why slim isnt involved..he's around i think...

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 23:22 (nineteen years ago)

I liked them as a trio anyway.

But Freese? Hell, get Michael Bland.

(Or even Steve Foley, heehee.)

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 23:27 (nineteen years ago)

!!!!!!

A|ex P@reene (Pareene), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

(and yeah, get Michael Bland!)

A|ex P@reene (Pareene), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

too bad bob won't be there. so is there going to be a tour?

mervin heinz, Tuesday, 28 March 2006 23:33 (nineteen years ago)

in lieu of tour news, i am most excited about the idea of westerberg recording with a real drummer again.

A|ex P@reene (Pareene), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 23:35 (nineteen years ago)

are they going to do the smart thing and turn an old, crackly bob stinson demo into a new tune, complete with jeff lynne production?

fact checking cuz (fcc), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 00:41 (nineteen years ago)

Mars is barely a real drummer Alex.

BUT OH FUCK YEAH ANYWAY!!!!

don weiner (don weiner), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 00:54 (nineteen years ago)

also, allegedly Mars was just doing background vox on the reunion track(s). I kind of doubt he's played his drums in years.

don weiner (don weiner), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 01:07 (nineteen years ago)

paul looks like he ages about ten years in between every photo.. finally a box set! im very scared to hear what comes of this reunion as these things are always embarassing for everyone, yet quite excited..

GWolfcow, Wednesday, 29 March 2006 01:17 (nineteen years ago)

Didn't Mars famously send some pals out on tour in support of his own solo records rather than hit the road himself?

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 01:19 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i didn't really think Chistopher Mars would be drumming again any time soon, but even if he was, i think he'd be better at it than when Paul does it himself in his basement.

It's fun to look at that picture and play "which one of these people is not from the midwest?"

A|ex P@reene (Pareene), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 01:20 (nineteen years ago)

it's fun to look at that picture and play "which one of these people used to be paul and which one used to be tommy?"

fact checking cuz (fcc), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 01:45 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know ... the thought of a sober, older and more responsible Replacements doesn't sound too exciting to me.

Jim M (jmcgaw), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

look me in the eyes and tell me that yr satisfied

Queen Godawful reunion special vomit my ass, Wednesday, 29 March 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

otm = fc^2

The Day The World Turned Dayglo Redd (Ken L), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

xxxpost

Who said they are sober?

Marshall Stax (Marshall Stax), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

I'm worried this is gonna sound more like Grandpaboy than Pleased To Meet Me. I figure if you have Josh Freese on board you might as well gloss-rock.

Zwan (miccio), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

esp. since Tommy is ex-G'n'r now.

Zwan (miccio), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

Can they at least bring the Lord-Alge brothers in to work their Don't Tell A Soul magic?

The Day The World Turned Dayglo Redd (Ken L), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

Paul looks like Elton John.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

paul was def. off the wagon when i saw him in new york last year

A|ex P@reene (Pareene), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

As an aside, I always wondered what happened to Polara. (Ed Ackerson's old band)

The Equator Lounge (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 19:25 (nineteen years ago)

chris mars does pretty well in the art game....he just showed some stuff at a local gallery along with this melvin show, i guess it was pretty cool stuff and sells for 10s of thousands of $$$$

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

Billboard has confirmed it:

Exclusive: Replacements Reunite For New Songs

katie, a princess (katie, a princess), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

Katie not only confirmed it, but works for Billboard [Edited -- posting personal info, even if business info, ain't cute. MOD.]

Col Tom Blue (Col Tom Blue), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

true that.

katie, a princess (katie, a princess), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

frankly - i'm not too keen on the practice of plopping a couple of new songs onto a "best of" collection. rip-off.

Jeff LeVine (Jeff LeVine), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 21:42 (nineteen years ago)

... especially considering they're not going to tour off it, either.

katie, a princess (katie, a princess), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

Ackerson does a lot of producing but Polara is still recording (I'm pretty sure he blew all his Interscope money on his studio.) See the Susstones website for details. They play out a few times a year.

don weiner (don weiner), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 21:55 (nineteen years ago)

I don't get it, what does the Billboard piece know that wasn't known already? Has there been an official announcement? Here's another article:

Pete Scholtes (Pete Scholtes), Friday, 31 March 2006 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

That's an honest question, no big deal either way...

Pete Scholtes (Pete Scholtes), Friday, 31 March 2006 17:23 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
Waht does ILM think of Message To Teh Boys

Jimmy Mod is a super idol of The MARS SPIRIT (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Thursday, 11 May 2006 02:53 (nineteen years ago)

better than all of Don't Tell a Soul besides "Talent Show" and "I'll Be You."

Seriously, though, it sounds like 14 Songs.

p@reene (Pareene), Thursday, 11 May 2006 04:11 (nineteen years ago)

It didn't rock my socks off, but it was okay.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 11 May 2006 04:13 (nineteen years ago)

The verse to "Message to The Boys" = chorus to "Final Hurrah."

The coda makes it for me, I think, cheesy as hell tho it may be. Otherwise, it's a pretty clunky riff.
