Ethan, no excited thoughts about '10,000 Hz Legend' RIGHT NOW from me, but I did want to applaud your entertaining post. I'll give the album another listen soon in your honor. Perhaps excitement will ensue.

Tim DiGravina, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maybe the excitement is to compensate for the lacklusterness of 'Everybody Hertz'. For me it probably is anyhow.

How funny...just listening to this & thinking the very same things the other day. The one thing is I HATE the back track. Really hate it. And some of the spoken-word stuff doesn't do much for me, like "How Does It Make You Feel" and "Wonder Milky Bitch." But there are 5 or 6 excellent songs on there, still, & it was nice to hear them try some new directions (cf. the Drucqks thread.)

Mark, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There were a couple good songs on it, but overall I was pretty underwhelmed. There are even a couple songs I can't stand ("Wonder Milky Bitch" definately comes to mind).

the remix album is cheap but is it good?

ethan, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I had high hopes for it as well. Not wild about it, tho'. I'll stick with MOON SAFARI.

Alex in NYC, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

that's the Beck track I hate. I guess there's two, but I'm talking about "Vagabond."

Mark, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's still great. It's still Air's best work to date, and it took me nearly the entire year to actually hear it, via much prodding and poking from friends to stop listening to the Virgin Suicides score already, and listen to what the band was currently up to.

matthew m., Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

you mean me right?

ethan, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

it probably sits with druckqs and geogaddi as a record that you'll 'get' after the fact...

gareth, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

OMAR TO THREAD.

stevo, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Air, like Serge, are better when the vocals are in French. I am disappointed that they have abandoned this on 10000HL

bham, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The songs from the album ROCKED live. But I still haven't bought the album, because I am a fool.

DV, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like the VIrgin Suicides album better.

Ally, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'Everybody Hertz' (remix album) - as with many remix projects, you'll like it as much as you like the remixer, I'd say, e.g. the Adrian Sherwood thing made me cringe, but if you like what he does...

Jeff W, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

three years pass...
This album came out too soon, it would be perfect now: it sounds a hell of a lot like an obituary for retro rock.

Lukas (lukas), Thursday, 16 February 2006 21:22 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

this is still a really dope record

and what, Monday, 28 July 2008 13:56 (seventeen years ago)

It's my favorite one by them, still.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 28 July 2008 14:11 (seventeen years ago)

great album, though its been a long long while since i the last time i listend to it

Zeno, Monday, 28 July 2008 14:13 (seventeen years ago)

I was just listening to this album this weekend! I like the Virgin Suicides OST more by a hair, but yeah - amazing stuff.

Mordy, Monday, 28 July 2008 14:19 (seventeen years ago)

it makes me feel like i've been roofied by nanobots, in a really sweet and lovely way

people explosion, Monday, 28 July 2008 14:52 (seventeen years ago)

i can't believe it's been almost a year since it came out

s1ocki, Monday, 28 July 2008 15:53 (seventeen years ago)

almost a decade at this point

Mordy, Monday, 28 July 2008 15:54 (seventeen years ago)

i hope they make an lp as 'interesting' as this again

blueski, Monday, 28 July 2008 16:06 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, this sounds better every year. I feel like we took experiments for granted around that time. I still hate "Vagabond".

Mark Rich@rdson, Monday, 28 July 2008 23:45 (seventeen years ago)

Still my favorite.

Capitaine Jay Vee, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 00:04 (seventeen years ago)

Ten years old! And still a complete classic. I know so many people who gave up on them after this album though.

gyac, Wednesday, 3 August 2011 20:20 (fourteen years ago)

thanks for indirectly inflicting stereogum upon the world

ILX Point Never (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 20:39 (fourteen years ago)

10,000 Hz Legend, over 20 years later. I'm listening to the new remaster. I haven't A/B'd it with the original so I'm not sure if it's an improvement, but it sure sounds fantastic. Still my favorite Air and one of the most underrated albums ever. It's like a parade of weird, zany, brilliant ideas and imo almost all of them work. I wish they had gone further down this road rather than retreating to the Moon Safari space-age bachelor pad zone after this one, but it's understandable given how it was received at the time.

J. Sam, Friday, 5 November 2021 17:38 (four years ago)

yeah, just by going by spotify play counts it's kind of amazing that 10k is barely listened to at all compared to moon safari! it's my favorite of theirs as well, although i was disappointed at the time

just staying (Karl Malone), Friday, 5 November 2021 19:55 (four years ago)

Yeah count me into the 'their best' club too
