Am I alone in kinda liking Devo 2.0?

I mean, I just sort of prefer most of these Devo songs with bratty female vocals and modern production.

This is not an April Fool's Day thing, I swear.

I kind of like their version of Good Thing.

darin (darin), Saturday, 1 April 2006 17:27 (nineteen years ago)

If you honestly prefer it to Devo, then I think it's safe to say that you're alone.

YOU ARE ALONE!

brazenly stripped of the original quintet's signature brand of subversion

dude, this has to be the most subversive move of Devo's entire career, they've found a way to piss off most of their own fans

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Saturday, 1 April 2006 19:50 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't actually, um, listened to them, but I did really like the concept.

Eppy (Eppy), Saturday, 1 April 2006 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

I might like them if they performed nude.

"Is Nothing Sacred?"

Alex (In NYC), you do realize that sentiments like "Is Nothing Sacred?" are the sort of thing Devo were trying to poke holes in?

i mean, this is probably the culmination of Devo's whole schtick

Don't know about you, Latebloomer, but I don't model my life after the opinions of my favorite musicians.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 1 April 2006 21:53 (nineteen years ago)

then why are you angry?

latebloomer: a power and finesse vocalist (latebloomer), Saturday, 1 April 2006 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

i base my life on early to mid-period Slayer

latebloomer: a power and finesse vocalist (latebloomer), Saturday, 1 April 2006 22:25 (nineteen years ago)

and i for one would love to see a Slayer equivalent of Devo 2.0..."Slayer, Jr." perhaps?

latebloomer: a power and finesse vocalist (latebloomer), Saturday, 1 April 2006 22:34 (nineteen years ago)

Alex in NYC, missing the point.

Jouster (Jouster), Saturday, 1 April 2006 23:44 (nineteen years ago)

thank god for points

rizzx (Rizz), Saturday, 1 April 2006 23:46 (nineteen years ago)

I'm laughing my ass off that Alex linked to an anti-devo2.0 group on a social networking site from a former adware company that's owned by Rupert Murdoch. Someone's being subverted twice, here.

mike h. (mike h.), Saturday, 1 April 2006 23:54 (nineteen years ago)

If and only if you completely, utterly and freely laugh at everything involving your own sacred cows are you able to claim some sort of moral superiority over those who don't. Frankly, I'm not sure I could make that standard, but I'd be willing to bet people piling on to Alex here in a reflexive "HAW HAW WE'RE SMARTER THAN HIM" dump couldn't either.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 2 April 2006 00:14 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not sure I have sacred cows per se, but I started rolling my eyes at Mothersbaugh and Devo in general after a few crappy licensing deals for commercials (Target, Swiffer) and the ongoing soundtracking for Wes Anderson films. Well, mostly the commercials since you're probably not too worried about the downward slide in films if you're just writing mood music. But, "You must swiff it?" Jesus.

mike h. (mike h.), Sunday, 2 April 2006 00:17 (nineteen years ago)

There's not been a downward swing in Anderson films :(

After Dr. Detroit I said, "Whores."

ant@work.com, Sunday, 2 April 2006 00:30 (nineteen years ago)

i'll admit i haven't heard one note of Devo 2.0 and do not plan on hearing any. i just like the concept.
