You all need to get a copy of this, if you don't have it. Stormy D, Scott Seward, Tim Ellison, I'm looking at you.

According to the liner notes of teh reissue, it was like 71 or 72 and this drunken bartender with rock & roll aspirations enlists local teenagers to record a record, then add tons of guitar overdubs. Totally brain-damaged in the best, most transcendent way.

I guess the CD has some bonus tracks too. I dunno when this was reissued, but it was just brought to my attention recently. Fucking insane stuff. Killer grooves, bizarre breaks (wtf is this flute doing here?!?!), obsessive/loner/creep lyrics.

Get it get it get it. From Norton.

NORTON 293 STUD COLE - BURN BABY BURN

He's been described as "Jack Starr meets Johnny Kidd", "a lysergic Conway Twitty" and "Elvis fronting the ’66 Yardbirds" but mere words can't truly describe the unique sounds of the late, great Stud Cole! We present his hauntin', tauntin' over the top 1968 promo only LP (only 100 copies pressed in 1968) plus five bonus cuts! Dig the ultimate LA loner icon and BURN BABY BURN!!! CD $12

i think norton has had that out for a while, but i've never heard it. that norton catalog makes me cringe, cuz there is SO MUCH stuff i would love to hear if i had the money to buy it all. all those comps are so fucking cool.

"the norton storage space = next door to the store i work at"

and, dude, total B&E (that's code for breaking and entering).

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 2 April 2006 03:22 (nineteen years ago)

i don't understand what you're implying, mr. seward.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 2 April 2006 03:23 (nineteen years ago)

i never hit up reissue labels for free copies of stuff cuz i feel like i should be giving them money to keep going. i know none of them are millionares.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 2 April 2006 03:25 (nineteen years ago)

$12 is cheaper than your average CD these days, right?

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 2 April 2006 03:28 (nineteen years ago)

it's a fair price. the best reissue i got last year was the *Ikon Records Story* double disc set. i love that thing. Frantic put it out. Crypt put out a vinyl version with less songs, maybe you have it at your record store. pre-psych stuff though. teen sacramento bands 64-66.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 2 April 2006 03:31 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, we have that! i don't have a copy but mike played it for me. they are all way more into a lot of that garage obscurities stuff. i just let them play it for me and i like about 50% of what they play.
