My initial reaction is that having their original 80s albums reissued by Cherry Pop a couple years ago is a lot more important than the band trying to issue new material. But then, reunion albums by Human League, Soft Cell and OMD have all been surprisingly good, so maybe this is the case with Blancmange as well.

i have to admit i'm quite excited by this... I hope the version of "I'm Having A Coffee" is the same one as they had on their website a couple of years back cos that was a great song...

re : the revisit to 'happy families', i.e. the recent 'happy families too .. ' release.
i love the original album more than is good for me.so, as good as the new version is (and it's not half bad actually once the ears adjust to the modern sonics) i cannot hear the new version without comparing it to the brilliance of the original.
original = bonkers analogue drum machines/synths/guitars/girl vox; revisit = laptop beats/loops + a few overdubs.
is this revisit another instance of copyright issue a la squeeze/elo etc, or, something else ?after all, edsel reissued the bands classic era catalogue a few years ago. clearly the reissues were pressed up in a very limited manner and now are OOP and massively ££££, which feels weird given that most reissues of a band like this should be easy to pick up.

Y'know, I have absolutely no idea what the motivation was behind the re-recording and at the time I was a bit surprised that time was being devoted to that rather than working on new material. Like yourself, I like the original album "as is" (even though it's probably my second favourite Blancmange record of the first three) and I didn't really see the point. Thankfully, there's been two new albums released since then: Semi Detached and the fully instrumental Nil By Mouth. I probably prefer the latter to the former.
