This sounds very cool, but the ones I am waiting for are Kraftwerk on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert during '74 or '75 (right after success of "Autobahn") U.S. tour!

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 2 April 2006 21:15 (nineteen years ago)

ThANK YUO INTERNETS

zappi (joni), Sunday, 2 April 2006 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

how did the hippies turn into robots?

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 2 April 2006 22:03 (nineteen years ago)

these are incredible

is florian really wearing a shirt with a huge picture of his own face on it?

milton parker (Jon L), Sunday, 2 April 2006 22:27 (nineteen years ago)

all the kraftwerk youtube stuff is remarkable, the video clip of 'showroom dummies' with the single mix that ends with all four of them dancing too groovy, the unbelievable 70's psychedelic short animation of 'autobahn'... of course the kraftneu 'truckstop' clip... I wish they'd get over themselves and just compile a DVD of all the different stages of their career, this is historical material. but they'll never do that, some of the material is glaringly (beautifully) dated and contradicts the modernist kraftwerk-museum they've built for their live show

I mean I like 'Minimum Maximum' but I'd watch a DVD of the 70's stuff much more often

milton parker (Jon L), Sunday, 2 April 2006 22:36 (nineteen years ago)

it's a major regret that they made a video document of their '98 tour instead of the '04 one. they were really on top in '98 and the three new songs completely trumped everything on 'TDF Soundtracks'.

milton parker (Jon L), Sunday, 2 April 2006 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

correction -- that they /didn't/ make a video document of their '98 tour

ok shutting up now

milton parker (Jon L), Sunday, 2 April 2006 22:40 (nineteen years ago)

Kraftwerk = hippies. I can see them driving their VW van through Morocco, everything. Their beautiful tunes ("Radioactivity") were beautiful but they didn't have any kick-ass tunes and are thus responsible for trance music and all those besieged chrome-domes screaming about how there's still NOIZE assaulting their poor calibrated eardrums, get rid of it now, it's all the fault of the rockist conspiracy etc etc etc. Actually, fuck Kraftwerk and everybody who followed them. (I still like "Radioactivity" though, but I think somebody should do a really shitty version of it)

chillaxing damsel on box art (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 2 April 2006 22:42 (nineteen years ago)

the pictures of them in their first gatefold album on Vertigo they're smoking joints, collages of out of focus double exposures of their faces, long hair on everybody, the whole deal

milton parker (Jon L), Sunday, 2 April 2006 22:54 (nineteen years ago)

what happened to the truckstop clip?!

nervous (cochere), Sunday, 2 April 2006 23:00 (nineteen years ago)

probably taken down, things don't stay on youtube very long

Homecomputer, live 1981: where can I buy this? youtube also has nummern / computerwelt from the same show, the whole thing's out there somewhere...

aw that last one is kind of sad. no neon sign for wolfgang. "who is flur?"

milton parker (Jon L), Sunday, 2 April 2006 23:29 (nineteen years ago)

i love ruckzuck! those clips are great--they expose kraftwerk for the hippie jam band they always were. has anyone seen the documentary (Kraut und Rüben) that the footage is from? it was a six-part miniseries about the history of german rock music that aired on the german tv channel WDR. the third episode was on amon düül, guru guru and can--i'd love to see that one. the fifth episode is on the scorpions' beginnings in hannover--i'd be psyched to watch that one as well. i'm guessing most of the kraftwerk stuff features in episode 6, the episode about electronic music in germany.

this is beautiful, they really knew how to jam on the live versions. makes me wish there was a "dick's picks" series for kraftwerk

smokemon (eman), Monday, 3 April 2006 02:51 (nineteen years ago)

i'm going to take a day off work to watch all this stuff. soon.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 3 April 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

I love the transmuzik video. That and increased sun in the evenings has made my day.

rchinn (rchinn), Monday, 3 April 2006 17:23 (nineteen years ago)

Has anybody else ever noticed that Florian Schneider and Ben Gibbard could be twins?

The "Autobahn" clip, even the version of "Autobahn" in the clip, is tremendously creepy.

Rodney's motives are beyond the comprehension of men (R. J. Greene), Thursday, 13 April 2006 01:20 (nineteen years ago)

Do you think these guys ever had special rehearsals to practice standing absolutely still like robots and/or showroom dummies? Like, "I'm sorry, Kraftwerk can't come to the phone right now, they're practicing their standing still?" They're really good at it.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 13 April 2006 01:34 (nineteen years ago)

Also, umm, yeah, did any of y'all's youtube searches for "Kraftwerk" happen to turn up this bodybuilder's creepy robot routine?

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 13 April 2006 01:46 (nineteen years ago)

Creepy? I thought it was almost as cool as that kid playing the Super Mario theme on two guitars.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Thursday, 13 April 2006 03:32 (nineteen years ago)

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THAT KRAFTWERK BODYBUILDING VIDEO MY ENTIRE LIFE
