Unwound breaking up

...apparently.

If this is true, this is really sad. Unwound are one of the bands that I can say I grew up on, from the very start to the very finish. If I had to choose a band to write a biography on, Unwound would be it. And since I'm about to start a three week road trip on March 22nd, it looks like I'll be missing all of those final shows. :(

But you know... "Leaves" kinda makes the perfect epitaph really. There's just something really moving and resolving about that album that can't be succeeded too easily.

I wish Justin, Vern, Sara, and Brandt the best. Sigh.

Yes, that's sad. Unfortunately I don't know too much Unwound. Leaves Turn... was my first purchase. So I guess I am the Anti- Brian (Bizarro Brian??) and will experience their music from the very finish to the very start. I have been wanting to get Repetition, and would also appreciate other guidance as to which albums to check out.

It's too bad there won't be any more new Unwound records. Leaves sure was a classy way to bow out. A beautiful album.

the news of unwound breaking up actually caused my heart to sink a little bit in my chest. i'd inadvertantly picked up every single, 12" and album they've released over the years. it wasn't intentional, but every time i saw one and had a little extra cash, i'd get it. i agree that 'leaves' is a classy way to go, but i felt there were plenty of directions to go from there -- the album served as a taste of what was to come (or so i hoped).

in the meantime, 'the future of what' remains my other favorite.
