Search: Packed (half-excellent, with some wonderful midtempo ballads that give maturity a good name), Viva el Amor!(their best since Learning to Crawl)

Destroy: the forced sexy-mama stuff on Last of The Independents, the too-mellow Loose Screw.

Sorry, I was rushing to put "Popstar" into Destroy.

I used to one of those people who said Chrissie could sing the telephone book and put it over. So untrue.

They were great live this past Saturday at Irving Pl in NYC.
Not even "great for a nostalgia act"; legitimately really good.

same here. 'i'll stand by you' was a big radio hit here, and the melodies on the verses are just beautiful.

New York Daily News reports:

"Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders told the sold-out crowd at Irving Plaza Saturday night that "this is probably the last time you'll see us play." Daily News' critic Jim Farber, who called the set "one of the best shows I've ever seen," says fans gasped. Hynde's rep had no comment on the band's future."

Hasn't she said that before? I got to see her at SXSW and it was a pretty stunning set--for a band that never seemed to kill live.
