You don't need an account to post here.

Oh wait. You do?! What the hell.

Damn dude stole my damn question, I am the one and only appointed synth-question asker on this site.

Down to business. Prince used a Prophet 5 and Oberheim Ob-xA on Controversy and Dirty Mind. The linn drum machine wouldn't be in there because the Linn wasnt made when that album was being produced.

Human League used a Linn on "Dare", which was recorded around the same time as "Dirty Mind".

Around the same time as "Controversy", I mean.

Not an answer, but all the same: Was that a Yamaha GX-1 that Fink used for the "When Doves Cry" solo?

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 08:30 (twenty years ago)

Prince used the Oberheim OB-SX a lot, which was the preset verion of the OBX-A.

Anyone can post here AFAIK, but only registered users can start new threads (this was done to deted a/spambots and b/people just using the board for album leak requests)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 08:36 (twenty years ago)

uh, deter, not deted.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 08:37 (twenty years ago)

Prince used the OB-SX for live shows until about the "Sign of the Times Era" which he switched to a DX-7

I mean they were made but the first 100 were beta models.

I think I remember reading that Prince got one of the very first Linns, though--maybe the first commercial one. It's all over 1999 for damn sure.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 6 April 2006 05:01 (twenty years ago)

Prince actually brought a beta-version of the Linn LM-1

The Startrekman (Startrekman), Thursday, 6 April 2006 06:15 (twenty years ago)

he deffo used linn on controversy....he did have an early model he only used it on one track. but as previous person said he hammered it on next 3 lps. he maily used oberheim on these two albums he had one at his home studio for most of the time.

he didn't use the linn on "Controversy", the linn wouldn't be used until "1999". However he did use Oberheim Synths From "Controversy" until "Sign O' the Times."
