This lp has been sitting in a local record store for a while, and everytime i'm there it catches my eye. i haven't been able to find out much about it... it's put out by rounder records so it seems promising, but it's priced at a bit more than i'd usually care to spend, but if it's gonna be great i'll go for it.

i'm not sure if it'd be the kind of thing that's much more enjoyable when heard with a historical context (of which i have only minimal), or if it's just really good music. anyway, figured i'd see if anyone here has any insight on it.

It's actually wonderful, and well worth the price. An understanding of historical context would help, but I think you'll like the music enough to either not care or to seek out more info. I've long ago misplaced my copy, but now have CDs by most of the artists on it (most of the songs on it contained therein) and love it all. It certainly warmed the heart of Robert Wyatt (who covered songs by Victor Jara and Violeta Parra), Joe Strummer and many others. The tunes are classic folk insomuch as they seem instantly familiar and still quite revolutionary at once. They're full of heart and passion - not terribly hi-fi or anything, though quite listenable.

If you're moniker bears any tribute to the similarly-named label, you'll love it.

So it's more than generic folk music?

I don't believe this has never appeared on CD. It looks great.

I bought this record in the early 80's and was just as charmed by the music and horrified by the history of what happened in Chile. Don't know if you are still deciding, but if you have the chance to get this record, do it!
