EIGHT OF rock's hottest bands have contributed to a special re-recording of Metallica's Master Of Puppets in celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the classic album's release.

Remastered, which features exclusive recordings by Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium, Fightstar, Machine Head, Funeral For A Friend, Chimaira, Mastodon and Mendeed - will be given away free with Kerrang! issue 1102, which goes on sale April 5!

"Master Of Puppets is a flawless, inspirational and hugely influential album - we're incredibly proud of Re-Mastered, which is the most exciting free CD in the magazine's history. Put simply, EVERY Kerrang! reader needs to hear this album." - Paul Brannigan, Kerrang! Editor

"We're really happy with our version of Welcome Home (Sanitarium) and I'm sure when Lars and the guys hear it they'll think we've done them proud!" - Matt Tuck, Bullet For My Valentine

"It's a real honour to be part of this. James Hetfield is one of the most inspirational players ever. He's the main reason I perform and I play the way I do." - Matt Heafy, Trivium

"We we wanted our track to be as fucking heavy as possible. I hope hardcore Metallica fans will like what we've done." - Charlie Simpson, Fightstar

"It's awesome to think that some of you guys weren't even born when we recorded Master Of Puppets! We're honoured that it's a record that's perceived as a milestone and a record that's been so inspiring to so many people. We're as excited to hear this as you guys are!" - Lars Ulrich, Metallica, from his exclusive sleeve note.

Anyone heard this? I'm only interested in the Mastodon track really.

And yes that really does say Fightstar.

Might be worth an illegal download.

hmmmm

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 7 April 2006 05:56 (twenty years ago)

well, uh, mastodon. right?

baby, disco is fuck (yournullfame), Friday, 7 April 2006 07:08 (twenty years ago)

Is it worth buying for just 1 track though? hmmm

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 7 April 2006 09:11 (twenty years ago)

on the upside it's free with kerrang. on the downside you wind up with a 7/8s awful cd AND a copy of kerrang lying around your house.

haha. I haven't bought Kerrang in ages.
They should let Stevie be editor as the stuff he writes about tends to be the only stuff I like.
The likes of High On Fire, Isis, Khanate, Boris, Pelican, Red Sparowes, Jesu all tend to get ignored. Especially compared to Terrorizer.
And probably will continue to do so as I get the feeling kerrang will start giving mega coverage to those female fronted goth-metal bands as "the next big thing"

At least they do cover Mastodon though.

Is Metal Hammer any good these days? I used to like it back when grunge broke because it covered a lot of alternative stuff that Kerrang actually ignored at the time, but then it seemed to be all nu-metal after that so I gave up.

Terrorizer is the only metal mag worth the time of day.

I did actually buy this Kerrang for the Mastodon track, and it is seriously fucking good. Probably just about worth the £1.99 expenditure, though the whole 'having a kerrang around the house' aspect is somewhat of a downside.

I bought the new Terrorizer instead as it had a Doom special. But apparently its part two. So what was in last months part one?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 7 April 2006 11:00 (twenty years ago)

Same sort of stuff but way more about Black Sabbath! And an excellent doom CD.

M Carty (mj_c), Friday, 7 April 2006 11:03 (twenty years ago)

What other bands were mentioned/Interviewed?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 7 April 2006 11:16 (twenty years ago)

Apparently there was a Wino/Cathedral poster.
Wino!!!

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 7 April 2006 17:35 (twenty years ago)

well, uh, mastodon. right?

My thoughts exactly.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 April 2006 17:37 (twenty years ago)

Whats In Part One Of The Terrorizer Doom Special

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 7 April 2006 17:43 (twenty years ago)

Part Two

And supposedly theres a part three next month.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 7 April 2006 17:50 (twenty years ago)

I came across the Mastodon track. It's really good!

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 7 April 2006 23:03 (twenty years ago)

Trivium's tight version of "Master of Puppets", carbon-copy that it is, is the best thing on the CD. Machine Head ("Battery") and Mastodon ("Orion") are solid. Chimaira does a good job on "Disposable Heroes", but the vocals are lacking charisma, which is always their biggest problem. Bullet For My Valentine add a little touch of kiddiecore on "Sanitarium", which isn't as bad as it sounds, and Funeral For a Friend sound adequate on "Damage Inc." Mendeed ("Thing That Should Not Be") and Fightstar ("Leper Messiah") sound unspectacular. Overall, a slightly better than average tribute album.

I suppose I wouldn't mind hearing the Machine Head track.

I almost bought it this morning but I changed my mind. I hate magazines wrapped in cellophane so you can't check whats in it.
