The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Sunday, 9 April 2006 16:55 (twenty years ago)

Toss-up between "Some Velvet Morning (New Version Extended Mix)" and the Jesse Jackson version of "Come Together"

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 9 April 2006 17:00 (twenty years ago)

i would have figured on an entire thread of 'velocity girl' vs. 'higher than the sun'.

keyth (keyth), Sunday, 9 April 2006 17:26 (twenty years ago)

this is impossible... i will say the transition from "Kill All Hippies" into "Accelerator" for now

sovietpandah, Sunday, 9 April 2006 17:35 (twenty years ago)

The Revenge of the Hammond Connection

glarbage, Sunday, 9 April 2006 20:15 (twenty years ago)

The version of "Come Together" with the Jessie Jackson samples.

Velocity Girl

twee and predictable ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 9 April 2006 20:22 (twenty years ago)

"keep your dreams". yeh, i'm a big softie.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 9 April 2006 20:22 (twenty years ago)

"Velocity Girl" is at least 2nd best though ailsa. How many years did they spend failing to live up to that?

Squonk (noodle vague), Sunday, 9 April 2006 20:27 (twenty years ago)

They are *still* failing to live up to it. I'm actually a sucker for all their soppy teenage angst (I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have, Cry Myself Blind, that sort of thing) too, but I'm not admitting that here, er, oops...

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 9 April 2006 20:47 (twenty years ago)

Hehehehehe. You been playing with a spike?

Squonk (noodle vague), Sunday, 9 April 2006 20:49 (twenty years ago)

Kowalski.

(Although Shoot Speed / Kill Light is, in fact, the song I play most.)

someone let this mitya out! (mitya), Sunday, 9 April 2006 22:29 (twenty years ago)

i love all fall down & velocity girl equally

toe-foo (toe-foo), Monday, 10 April 2006 00:55 (twenty years ago)

if i had to choose nu-PS then it would be between "shoot speed" and "when the kingdom comes"

electric sound of jim (and why not) (electricsound), Monday, 10 April 2006 01:07 (twenty years ago)

Loaded - Simply because whenever I hear it, I have the urge (so far resisted) to dance on a podium.

Ben Dot (1977), Monday, 10 April 2006 03:31 (twenty years ago)

shit, i forgot about SSKL. maybe that.

MBV Arkestra (If They Move Kill 'Em)

W Gary (Schade), Monday, 10 April 2006 06:54 (twenty years ago)

Damaged.

Only joking!

I will forever love that song but has special meaning to me, can care less what the haters think.

Your're Just Too Dark To Care (a B-Side)

BeeOK (boo radley), Monday, 10 April 2006 07:52 (twenty years ago)

Stuka, or Trainspotting, or MBVArkestra or Blood Money.

Not much love here for the bluesy/rootsy/countryish stuff that their new album is reportedly a return to.

bham (bham), Monday, 10 April 2006 07:56 (twenty years ago)

I'm actually a sucker for all their soppy teenage angst (I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have, Cry Myself Blind, that sort of thing) too, but I'm not admitting that here, er, oops...

OTM

I love all those songs by this band that I shouldn't like but still most of Give Out But Don't Give Up was a mistake. That tour with Depeche Mode and solo (Harley Davidson night at the Whiskey A Go Go) still ranks as one of the best shows I have ever seen, period.

BeeOK (boo radley), Monday, 10 April 2006 08:00 (twenty years ago)

It happens.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 10 April 2006 08:54 (twenty years ago)

Higher Than The Sun. Any version, really, but the original and first album versions fight for favourite (and only then because I've listened to the demo/original about 300 times less).

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 10 April 2006 09:00 (twenty years ago)

Can't choose between ' Loaded' and 'Higher That The Sun (American Spring remix)'.

Omar (Omar), Monday, 10 April 2006 10:02 (twenty years ago)

Screamadelica - the song.

csbx, Monday, 10 April 2006 10:12 (twenty years ago)

nobody has said 'accelerator'?

Just got offed, Friday, 24 August 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

oh wait, somebody said 'the transition between KAH and Accelerator'. that doesn't count.

MBV Arkestra (If they move, kill 'em)

Stevie D is correct.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZ3y7sZQ4EI

unfortunately ^ that is the only YT clip I could find. It cuts off before the climactic section of the song that sounds like 100 different police sirens & burglar alarms going off at once.. As such, I highly recommend the uninitiated seek this out!

jerkstore cowboy (Pillbox), Friday, 17 December 2010 21:37 (fifteen years ago)

their best track easily

nax arrrrrgh (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 December 2010 21:43 (fifteen years ago)

part of me is inclined to think that 'burning wheel' might be their best now, but I barely listen to 'em - xtrmntr is the only one that gets anything like an occasional airing and then it's only individual tracks

titular character (acoleuthic), Friday, 17 December 2010 21:47 (fifteen years ago)

'one' = 'album'

titular character (acoleuthic), Friday, 17 December 2010 21:48 (fifteen years ago)

bobby g is dead to u ;_;

nax arrrrrgh (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 December 2010 21:49 (fifteen years ago)

he was barely responsible for any of their good songs, tbf

titular character (acoleuthic), Friday, 17 December 2010 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

'good' = 'listenable'

titular character (acoleuthic), Friday, 17 December 2010 21:52 (fifteen years ago)

SICK
FUCK

nax arrrrrgh (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 December 2010 21:53 (fifteen years ago)

higher than the sun

brotherlovesdub, Friday, 17 December 2010 21:54 (fifteen years ago)

xpost that song is actually p close to being q good - the modulating drone in the background needs a better accompaniment than bobby's lamentable dithyramb

titular character (acoleuthic), Friday, 17 December 2010 21:55 (fifteen years ago)

primal scream were tasteful (lucky?) enough in their choice of collaborators that they got away with having relatively little to do with the greatness of their own work. Minus a Weatherall or Shields etc. they naturally revert to their default hack-Stones pose.

jerkstore cowboy (Pillbox), Friday, 17 December 2010 22:13 (fifteen years ago)

this underrates the value of assemblage though, imo. it isn't nothing to get the memphis horns and shields and prince far-i and george clinton working with you. i am a bobby g fan, but even factoring that in i think reading his involvement as being rock and roll yelping while musicians do the hard work is kinda harsh .

schlump, Sunday, 19 December 2010 11:18 (fifteen years ago)

not sure they got prince far-i working with them as such

history mayne, Sunday, 19 December 2010 11:20 (fifteen years ago)

Even so, Schlump, at best Gillespie is a project manager with maybe a 50% success rate.

Captain Ostensible (Scik Mouthy), Sunday, 19 December 2010 11:44 (fifteen years ago)

this is maybe the irony of one of the most rockist (as yer dad) rock bands of all time

history mayne, Sunday, 19 December 2010 11:47 (fifteen years ago)

or just ask

history mayne, Sunday, 19 December 2010 11:47 (fifteen years ago)
