You are the sun, you are the rain, that makes my life this foolish game.

Probably the greatest Lionel Richie song made.

Wait, you're not asking about the synth sounds = YOU ARE A FAKE.

Because there is only one synth sound and that is of a Moog.

I'm quite partial to "Once, twice, three times a lady".

I am transfixed by one of the background singer/dancers in this video

I had loved the Commodores a lot, like a WHOLE lot before Richie went solo, and "You Are," when it came out, made me think Lionel Richie's solo stuff was gonna be just mindbendingly great next-level stuff, trafficking in those low easy harmonising-with-himself moments and just gettin' nice and deep in his special easy pop voice. Except that the chorus wasn't really Commodores-worthy - kinda cheap, not funky enough. Within a couple of years of course Richie would have more or less stated plainly through his work that he was no longer interested in making it funky enough.

one year passes...

Classic, because it's the first pop song I remember hearing on the bus home from school and saying 'what is that?'. I've sort of vaguely assumed it was Stevie Wonder and only just identified it.

possibly responsible for my liking the I-VI-IV-V progression

every second is spine-chillingly great…

Not by any stretch one of his greats, but I love the farting synth-bass with which it leads.

Not his greatest, but Lionel Richie couldn't fail back then. His self-titled solo debut and "Can't Slow Down" were both genius.
