I think PiL win everything except "Track 8" vs "Why Does it Hurt When I Pee"

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 08:07 (twenty years ago)

hey dave q, there are other zappa albums besides joe's garage, btw.

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 10:51 (twenty years ago)

But sometimes all you need is just one.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 11:50 (twenty years ago)

And you certainly don't need all three "acts" of "Joe's Garage"

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 11:56 (twenty years ago)

Fodderstompf beats everything.

Jim M (jmcgaw), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 13:57 (twenty years ago)

The flawless execution displayed by the musicians on Zappa's 'Joe's Garage' floored me when I first heard it. Sure, the lyrics are childish, but the sound of the album and the music contained within is highly impressive. Simply put, these guys knew how to play their instruments with a very high skill level. And though Zappa is hardly a vocalist in any way, the performances that Ike Willis turns in definitely make up for Zappa's inconsistencies. Yet Zappa's hapless vocal attempts will always sound like those of a polished professional when compared to the catterwauling of Mr Lydon.
I can only grin at this thread's attempt of comparison. The musicianship contained on 'Joe's Garage' demolishes the amateurism of PIL...but I LOVE MUSIC always prefers amateurism. So go ahead, slam the true pros and praise the pretenders.

... this last post is exactly why so many people have problems with Zappa

I have no problems with Zappa -- I have problems with many of his idiot fans, mind you.

It doesn't exactly help to endear him to anyone else does it? Anyone normal I mean.
