Because My Search Technique Sucks, Another NY Record Store Thread...

I am most likely coming up for a few days in a few days, and I haven't been able to find the name and address of that shop in the E Village that sells only techno. I am probably going to go to Halcyon as well, but I was also wondering...

Where is the shop where the clerk might help me find some interesting contemporary house on domestic labels to match all the techno imports I am blowing most of my money on?

Also:

Fill in the blank:

_____________ is the record store in which one would be likely to find underpriced copies of chicago, detroit and new york classics in their original pressings. Is there another option besides digging through that thrift store basement in greenpoint? i don't mind digging, but not through 60,000+ unsorted records in one day!

Thanks!

Do you mean Sam Goody or Tower?

Sorry, dude I am from New Jersey. But if you know where I can get a 12" disco edit of "You Give Love a Bad Name" let me know.

Now you may think I'm kidding (and I am) but seriously, I was at the Golden Rail in New Brunswick last week and the DJ actually dropped the aforementioned track.

Speaking of which, what's the deal with the record dump in Greenpoint? I've heard a lot about this place, but never been there. Is it still worth checking out? Didn't [insert rockstar's name] used to take a limo there to buy records back in the day?

If you have to ask...

the techno store in the east village that sold only techno was Temple and it's long gone. So are most of the other stores that sell techno. You can still find some at Other, Kims, Etheria, Turntablelab etc, and quite a few oldies at A1, esp. since people don't go there for techno.

so is vinyl market not there anymore?

the dump in greenpoint is so large and so unsorted that it would really be impossible to know whether it was still worth going there or not without seeing the label on every piece of vinyl there, which is impossible.

Vinyl Market is the one you're thinking of. Kazu is the name of the guy who runs it. It was around the last time I was in NYC (october of 2005) and I'm pretty sure it's still there (I was talking to my friend about it over IM the other day) Kazu has kind of sketchy hours though, so it might take some work to find it open.
