We all need a slab of mess rock now and again.

Please recommend me some that I may have missed.

Violent Students
The name alone sounds promising.

I'm probably asking too much of the VS but do they do sludge powermess and blastbeats? Separately like. That is the sort of band I need .

I saw [the somewhat renovated] Flipper on Saturday at the Warfield, at the Fab Mab reunion. Bless them. Sex Bomb is still great.

The Intellegence and the A-Frames 7" (look for Neutron Bomb...) fit here. Fang, Flipper...don't forget Stickmen With Rayguns.

i don't know man but could somebody reissue those fucking flipper records before this shit starts a wave and they get even further out of my price range. some no trend reissues'd be nice to.

baby, disco is fuck (yournullfame), Friday, 14 April 2006 03:48 (twenty years ago)

Some silly prices for Flipper at Amazon, though you can still get the live "Blown Chunks", remastered yet, for my money their best. A singles collection - or box - would be really nice.

The recent reissue of the Cramps live at Napa video had a tacked-on couple of minutes of them doing "Low Rider". (Along with an interminable Z'Ev performance) Scarily intense, in a way I hadn't expected from the discs. Someone should reissue/compile all of that Target Video stuff(& maybe take off those horrible copyright subtitles) Judging from what turns up on YouTube, there's more than enough for a proper US 'Punk Attitude' style doc.

I feel you on those reissues!

this is a great question, and i'm psyched to check out violent students now... i can see why you lump them in with drunks with guns and of course fang, (and what ofno trend? void?? do they fit in there?)

for me, what flipper did is largely unreproducable, and truly amazing. the ways that flipper stood punk rock on its head (cliche i know but i'm feeling lazy) were not even that understood at the time, i don't think. they were the first band i ever heard of trying to tune so low as to induce bowel movements. and i think they influenced so many groups but didn't even get that kind of influence cred (gibby and crew to david yow's bands...)

if only there were more half-brilliant shell-shocked guitarists in sloppy, brutal punk bands! sigh.
