SWA XCIII vs. Generic Flipper

Generic Flipper maybe has more snappy tunes; XCIII peaks w/ the long tracks on side 2 (only three tracks on the side). But Merrill is funnier and I think I prefer Juncosa to Falconi so call it a tie.

Oh also: XCIII has better sound (I think! I only have a cassette dub of Generic Flipper taped on someone's stereo over fifteen years ago).

Interesting that Tim.
I always avoided SWA on the notion that they were yet another SST hippy AOR jazz failure. Perhaps I was wrong?
You know, after the MinuteFlagDuPups peak when everything went dreadfully long haired and noodly

Additional TS you may want to consider:

Tom Troccoli's Dog vs. GI
I'm Dead vs. Psychic... Powerless... Another Man's Sac
Second Factionalization vs. Atomizer

Yeah, SWA were a comedy band and it would seem as though a lot of people didn't get the joke?!? Seriously one of the funniest bands ever. Don't know how I feel about their earliest records - haven't heard the first one and I don't think Sex Doctor (the second) is as good as the later ones (though it has the classic "Sea and Sky" on it). But XCIII, the only one from when Sylvia Juncosa was in the group, is really really good and the one after that, Winter, has a lot of great stuff on it as well.

(Secret thread connection tidbits: Falconi was originally going to be the guitarist in SWA. He also had something to do with the cover of XCIII.)

But really, I must be joking. There's no way a SWA ALBUM could possibly be anywhere near as good as one of Edward's holy-holy albums from the Good Punk's Canon.

Heard about the Falconi/SWA connection.

Not sure how Ted's subterranean sludge would have blended with SWA'a more foot on the monitor aspirations though? SWA 'rawked'yes. Or attempted to?

I thought Flipper were a great comedy band btw.

I'd like to hear Falconi collaborate with some contemporary drone/doom band - his sound was great and seemed to prefigure all of that. Flipper for Instal in 2007? We can dream.

With Sylvia's playing on XCIII, that's seemingly somewhere in the ballpark of how SWA might have sounded with Falconi.
