lake's claims to fame: qb legend for the goodfellas crew stuff, doing 7 years or something for shooting at police, coming home to be nas's problem solver, getting prodigy's chain back (although nas says jungle did that on destroy & rebuild-- i'm sure p has had his chain taken more than once), the 41st side compilation thing, almost murdering p at summer jam before littles stepped in, saying he was the modern day hitler on revolutionary warfare (people remember just the hitler thing but we totally raw on that-- MY REVOLUTION IS AS REAL AS BOBBY SEALE'S, I BUILD / WITH DUDES WITH CRIBS WORTH A QUARTER MIL IN DIX HILLS / FOR FISH SCALES TO COP GUNS, THE TIME COME / I MASK UP AND GET MY COMRADE OFF THE BUS / FUCK THE BEEF, I SNATCH YA SEED FROM CHUCK E CHEESE / THEN FEED HIM TO THE RATS IN THE BACK OF THE PS / BLACK FATIGUES AND AR-15S ON THE SOFA / 50 INCH FLAT SCREEN, LOUIS VUITTON HOLSTERS / MY MOTIONS DON'T APPEAL TO APPELATE DIVISIONS / I DID IT FOR 7 HARD YEARS IN PRISON, especially because it's on such a soft beat, flutes and those "ahhhh, ahhhhhhh" vocal samples), then dissing nas on a gay-ass flip of why? where he was talking about nas putting on uh... what's his name?? the virginia guy instead of lake, about to bring death row AND the east coast back.
he's got a west coast beat on this, lots of rapping with the west coast thing he can do, sigh-y and sibilant and breaking words into six sections, telling a goin back to cali story about riding goldrimmed cars and smoking weed and chilling with producers with deathrow and ruthless. "off to LAX bundled up in my headphones / no subway and graffiti when i'm out in the westcoast / i low low and triple g under palm trees / while hoes sprinkle candy and sniff it up off me..." these guys, you can only quote two or three words or quote the whole verse.
"eatin tuna fish, fightin niggas for new timbs."
"el-ab-or-ate fab-errrr-ics"
"unnatur-al for me to be cas-u-al"
"gold rim car-teee-aiiiiirs"
"sittin on the hammock right after syringin"

"By the sword"/"somebody got shot" by Lake was a good 12" if you like generic QB thug shit over bootleg Alchemist style drama production/NY no name producers trying to do G funk circa 1995
..or if you just bought anything with a Hydra Records logo on it.

You mean Screwball ?
Split up. "Y2k" lp and the early 12"s like "cookies and cream", "beat 'em in the head" were hardcore. The Poet dude is now called Blaq Poet and has done a bunch of tracks with Primo over the past couple of years.
Lemme hook up an mp3 of "poet is coming" by Poet/Primo in a sec. That was some bangin' grimey Q.B shit from '03.
