This isn't a fair comparison, Eno is actually interesting!

ILM TS generator currently malfunctioning.

Boas win, everytime.

Patton:
Pros:

-Mr. Bungle is great.

Cons:

-Fantomas is just a re-hash of everything John Zorn and Naked City did a decade ago (fast, cut-up music, long, drawn out "atmosphere" pieces w/same ensemble, cartoon music, film music...).
-The best parts of "Pranzo Oltranzista" actually featured Zorn.
-"Adult Themes for Voice" was not great.
-The collab. w/Merzbow wasn't great.
-Tomahawk is so-so.
-Most everything else falls somewhere between "boring" and "so-so".
-Seems to think he's a lot more cutting-edge than he actually is.

Eno:

Pros:

-Pretty much everything he's done is good, with a few exceptions.
-Better hair, when he had some.

Cons:

-Can sound pretty "same-y" at times. But then, he can argue that's the point.

Eno wins.

Two questions for Mike Patton:

Have you ever been hospitalized from a collapsed lung, brought on by near-constant sex?

And are you capable of rocking a catsuit and receding hairline?

I see.

Advantage: Eno!

eno

how does constant sex result in a collapsed lung, exactly?

I would rather listen to Fantomas's Suspended Animation, or Faith No More's Angel Dust, than anything by Roxy Music. However, Discreet Music is great. I say tie.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Friday, 14 April 2006 19:18 (twenty years ago)

but yeah Eno basically has a ten-year run or so of great material and Patton's only work that I think is truly phenomenal is "Angel Dust".

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 14 April 2006 19:19 (twenty years ago)

Fantomas's Suspended Animation
Faith No More's Angel Dust
Mr. Bungle's California

all better than most Eno things. still pick Eno.

i'll pick Eno.

i do like Mr. Bungle a lot though.

latebloomer: Ambassador With Training In Righteousness (latebloomer), Friday, 14 April 2006 19:31 (twenty years ago)

i would assume that patton's "attempt" "at" "rapping" on "Epic" precludes him and his work from being taken seriously by all other than single-celled species.

This all depends: are we talking about Brian Eno the janitor from Easton, PA or Brian "I had a hand in Low and Fear of Music" Eno. That would make all the difference in the world, really.

Also, more interesting TSs:

Brian Eno vs. Martin Hannett
Brian Eno vs. David Byrne
Brian Eno vs. Phil Spector
Brian Eno vs. Paul McCartney
Brian Eno vs. David Fridmann (j/k...perhaps)
Brian Eno vs. God (trick TS - Brian Eno is God)

M. Biondi (M. Biondi), Friday, 14 April 2006 20:47 (twenty years ago)

The two I'd like to see are:

Brian Eno vs. Simon Fisher Turner
Brian Eno vs. David Cunningham

I love Mike Patton almost as much as Phil Freeman loves crack rock.

Eno still shades it tho.

Mingus Realty (noodle vague), Friday, 14 April 2006 22:36 (twenty years ago)

t/s: eno vs al gore

it's ambient versus the internet, people.

yours fondly, harshaw. (mrgn), Friday, 14 April 2006 22:44 (twenty years ago)

that track on burner and that rap song he did deconstructing wasians

pds7k2 (pds37), Saturday, 15 April 2006 07:37 (twenty years ago)

"wasians" = derogatory term for "white asians"?

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Saturday, 15 April 2006 15:12 (twenty years ago)

i pick Patton. so many differing styles plus the man has perfect pitch.

pinder (pinder), Saturday, 15 April 2006 16:20 (twenty years ago)

Nothing against Patton, but I'd take Taking Tiger Mountain over just about anything by anyone. Thus: Eno.
