I just bought a Thorens turntable - am very happy with it, with the additional purchase of a phono pre-amp there's a really noticeable difference in quality compared to my previous Technics turntable through my old amp.
However, sometimes when I'm playing 7"s the arm lifts up and stops before the song finishes. This is obv something to do with some kind of tracking setting or something. I couldn't see anything in the instruction manual about this (it mostly mentions the anti-skate setting which I think I've got set up properly) but I presume there's somewhere I can adjust to stop it from doing this. I expect playing 5" records will be impossible unless I fix it (not a big deal since I only have 1 5" record).
Any ideas?

Another dumb, albeit totally unrelated record player question:
I can't actually get my needle to go on to the record. It keeps springing back to the rest position. It feels like the mechanism that takes it off the groove and returns it to the off position is permanently engaged or something. Anyone have an idea?

Okay temporary solution reached: I just snapped off the plastic mechanism that lifts the needle and tries to return it.
