i guess dallas is to twisted black as z-ro is to houston cause everyone wants to point out "oh don't get fooled by that dsr shit, twisted black is straight from dfw and he is the realest rapper you will ever hear." boring street raps AND loony multi-narrative perfectly plotted concept tracks. and ro, you have to mention all that bolstering whatever whatever, slept on benches and spent years drugdead, and black, same deal: got a 12 gauge fired at his face, fucked up and scarred (i know he looks like cassidy in that picture but it's the shadow, i couldn't find a gruesome picture), spent a long time trying to rap while making money doing stuff to get sent to prison ("everytime he hit the studio, his beeper go off"-- i was just listening to the life of joseph w. mcvey, which is why i had that quote and the comparison in my head. oh, and the twisted black cd is called the life of tommy burns!).

the block is the single, on mixtapes and a video shot for it (instead of the tracks with face or bg or slim thug? [yes, there was a track with bun b, too, of course. (check soulseek or whatever for DOWN HERE from the onegudcide cd CONTRADICTIONS [black was in onegudcide in like 99 with some other dude, now the original is some japanese ebay hundred dollar lost classic], ugk track, pimp c beat)]). and fuck i don't want these z-ro comparisons to make him sound like some crooning mournful type of guy, he's rough. the flow is closer to your neighborhood amateur hotrapper-- i know exactly who i'm talking about: cappo, sells his cd-r in paper envelope with crinkly plastic window at 306 in the northgate mall, works at the same place selling enyce shirts and shit. sounds closer to your local hotrapper than, you know, a label rapper type of guy. and he's talking about street business, starting a record store with dope money and putting a daycare nextdoor and driving the 745, but teaching himself spanish so he can get birds for cheaper and giving recommendations on stretching a one to a one and a half, whatever: not z-ro. squeaky voice instead of a deep i-didn't-know-pac-could-sing-like-that croon. beats are cheap south, could be rapping over tussle here, actually.

YOU CAN FIND ME ON THE BLOCK WITH A HANDFUL
MATTER FACT, I GOT A HANDFUL AND A HANDTOOL
MATTER FACT, I'M ON THE BLOCK WITH A HANDFUL AND A HANDTOOL
WITH "STUDIO GANGSTA" ENGRAVED UP ON THE HANDLE

i dunno, i think that's a classic line unless he stole it from someone else.

Black is the realest cat out right now; already a legend in Texas and Indiana; the game is over; remember I told you. Can't nobody flow with this cat, period
