from bryan ferry's website:

Since the highly acclaimed Summer Dates of 2005, Roxy Music have been back in the studio for the first time for over twenty years.

In the build up to the release, Roxy are planning on releasing a remix album, in which various Djs and producers will be putting their own spin on Roxy and Ferry’s back catalogue.

OK so apparently lindstrom is down for one track on this, but that is all I know. who else would be good? will it be RAWESOME or RAWFUL?

1. 'angel eyes' (lindstrom remix)

you can also include solo ferry 'joints' that may be suitable, as per the quote above.

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Monday, 17 April 2006 12:12 (twenty years ago)

2. love is the drug (dfa hyperdub)

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 17 April 2006 13:09 (twenty years ago)

Somehow I have difficulty imagining I'll like anything out of this project.

someone let this mitya out! (mitya), Monday, 17 April 2006 13:12 (twenty years ago)

ditto.
re-mix schre-mix.

nerve pylon (flat_of_angles), Monday, 17 April 2006 14:27 (twenty years ago)

3. 'street life' (rub n tug)

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 17 April 2006 14:41 (twenty years ago)

4. "for your pleasure" (vladislav delay remix)

geeta (geeta), Monday, 17 April 2006 14:51 (twenty years ago)

good call!

i'm trying to figure out who'd get the most out of 'bogus man'

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 17 April 2006 14:54 (twenty years ago)

5. Both Ends Burning (Superpitcher remix) (this one sounds soooo good in my head :)

Omar (Omar), Monday, 17 April 2006 14:55 (twenty years ago)

6. 'bogus man' (villalobos extended mix)

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Monday, 17 April 2006 14:58 (twenty years ago)

(goes for 20 minutes)

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Monday, 17 April 2006 14:58 (twenty years ago)

track 6 is so OTM. :)

Omar (Omar), Monday, 17 April 2006 15:03 (twenty years ago)

yeah i was thinking villalobos but i think he would make everything sound too much like himself, i.e. not like roxy music at all. not that that's a bad thing, but for this project, i would rather see stuff that had at least a minor resemblance to the original tune. i think wolfgang voigt should do one.

geeta (geeta), Monday, 17 April 2006 15:05 (twenty years ago)

7. "more than this" (the mfa remix)

geeta (geeta), Monday, 17 April 2006 15:10 (twenty years ago)

yes!!

8. 'virginia plain' (ewan pearson dub)

I will bet $1,000 that this gets called remade / remodelled when they put it out, btw. there is no more obvious title they could possibly pick.

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Monday, 17 April 2006 15:14 (twenty years ago)

mixifesto!

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 17 April 2006 15:24 (twenty years ago)

*ducks*

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 17 April 2006 15:24 (twenty years ago)

i think he's right--it'll be called 'remade/remodelled' or something along those lines. there is no imagination when it comes to tribute album titles!

i would also like to see remixes by carl craig, EYE, booka shade, konrad black, lawrence, and optimo. they should also include the whirlpool productions rework of "editions of you."

geeta (geeta), Monday, 17 April 2006 15:37 (twenty years ago)

...and a dj pierre wild pitch remix.

geeta (geeta), Monday, 17 April 2006 15:37 (twenty years ago)

i would say burger/ink, but they already made "las vegas" a/k/a the ultimate roxy music homage

Beta (abeta), Monday, 17 April 2006 15:45 (twenty years ago)

I would like Ben Liebrand to be on this but it's unlikely. He prob. did a Roxy Music remix at some point anyway.

Also, check this (esp. the review):

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Monday, 17 April 2006 15:59 (twenty years ago)

I would love to hear a remix of "Mother Of Pearl" but I can't decide as to who should do it.

LOL Thomas (Chris Barrus), Monday, 17 April 2006 16:03 (twenty years ago)

it'll be called 'remade/remodelled' or something along those lines. there is no imagination when it comes to tribute album titles!

maybe, but you can hardly penalize them for the fact that a great title was readymade for the project.

someone let this mitya out! (mitya), Monday, 17 April 2006 16:05 (twenty years ago)

9. Avalon (Dettinger Mix)

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Monday, 17 April 2006 17:43 (twenty years ago)

10. Jealous Guy (Lawrence extended remix), I always wanted that bit at the end with the whistling and synths to be longer.

Omar (Omar), Monday, 17 April 2006 17:53 (twenty years ago)

11. Avalon (Fat Freddy's Drop remix). some subtle rhythm tweaks and muted horns + joe dukie's vocals could make this amazing.

something less threatening (heywood), Monday, 17 April 2006 17:56 (twenty years ago)

The ideal one?

1. Virginia Plain (Rhett Davies 7 inch mix)
2. Pyjarama (Rhett Davies 7 inch mix)
3. Do The Strand (Rhett Davies 7 inch mix)
4. Street Life (Rhett Davies 7 inch mix)
5. Love Is The Drug (Rhett Davies 7 inch mix)

13. More Than This (Rhett Davies 7 inch mix)
14. Take a Chance With Me (Rhett Davies 7 inch mix)
15. Avalon (Rhett Davies 7 inch mix)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 17 April 2006 20:52 (twenty years ago)

How about Amazona. Only don't fucking remix it. It's already fucked up and rad. Remix album? Fucking lame.

ffsgsdfkj, Wednesday, 19 April 2006 19:36 (twenty years ago)

How much are you willing to bet it'll end up being more along the lines of "Virginia Plain (Crystal Method Remix)"/"Love Is The Drug (Paul Oakenfold Remix)"/etc?

Telephonething (Telephonething), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:17 (twenty years ago)

How very true. But one can dream, no? :)

Omar (Omar), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 20:25 (twenty years ago)

one can dream home a heartache.

geeta was probably right, it might be better if ricardo got frustrated doing the remix, removed all the roxy elements and then put it out as a standalone EP, like with that KLF remix!

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Thursday, 20 April 2006 09:19 (twenty years ago)

already roxy music - angel eyes (glimmer twins re-edit), maybe they will do something for it.

20jazzfunkgreats.blogspot.com (20jazzfunkgreats.blogspot.com), Thursday, 20 April 2006 11:14 (twenty years ago)

I dare not hope too much for this if the end result is crushing mediocrity.

Personally I'd love to see what the Super Furry Animals could do to something, for the hell of it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 April 2006 11:34 (twenty years ago)

"Screwed & Chopped", can you imagine how good the Bouse Man would be?

I meant "Bogus Man", I have no idea what my hands are up to.

Okay, so a couple of mixes have surfaced on myspace:

Fetisch Terranova's "Love Is the Drug" and Kaos's "Angel Eyes". I like what I hear so far.

Also, guy who wrote the last comment before this one: "ponsy glamour freaks!!"? Um. Roxy Music. What.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Saturday, 15 July 2006 00:11 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
Haven't heard any of them apart from FT's "Love is the Drug" but a fansite has come up with a few more:

"Angel Eyes" (re-edit by Frank Tope and Dean Rudland)
"Angel Eyes" (Kaos Remix) [as linked to above]
"Rain Rain Rain" (Tiefschwarz Remix)
"The Thrill of it All" (M.A.N.D.Y.'s 'I Am Your Pusher Man Rework')
"Avalon" (Lindstrøm Remix)

other remixers, without track specifications:
Headman
Rub n' Tug
Nellee Hooper

(FT's list above is pretty accurate it seems)

haha, just found out now. its easily the better than any of the official releases.

i'm so stoked to get it, (i actually ripped a version from his myspace and played it out a few times last year, despite how poor it sounded. shameless.)

gr8080, Friday, 10 August 2007 17:50 (eighteen years ago)

i had a used copy of one of these in my hands and i wasn't sure if i'd like it because i'm not huge on current dance music (don't hate it, just probably wouldn't buy it) and the guy at the store told me not to buy it. oh well
