Haha, I think I will too.
They only seem to have two members watching the video, so maybe one of them played the drums, rather than a dedicated drummer, which would explain the flabiness. Did noone tell them MBV used sequenced drums on Loveless? haha.

so, exactly like MBV then?

Actually, I've always loved the MBV 'Isn't Anything' drum sound, it's just that Colm's drumming was often very sloppy , which I also loved :-)

Yeah, they manage that MBV vibe at times too without using the same sonic palette. I wanted to see one of their shows earlier this year but couldn't make it.
can't get the link to work but are they anything like sugar plant?
From the samples they have up, Fleeting Joys are a lot closer to Loveless than they are to the Sugar Plant I've heard (Happy/Trance Mellow).

Yeah, there are some nice moments on the album, but it's a little underwhelming. There are a lot people writing pop music but few who do it well. This sounds like Loveless, but Loveless is hooks, hooks, hooks.
To Shield's skill, when Loveless came out, I remember initially being put off by how wrong it sounded to me, but there was enough catchiness in it to pull me in and make me want to hear it more.

I re-listened to this album recently* and it was fine... until I got to to "Magnificent Oblivion" which was by far the best song on the record, buried deep into side 2:

*I bought it at their sparsely-attended show at The Hemlock... 18 years ago? They are firmly within my top 5 shoegaze-revival bands from Sacramento.

From John Loring on the Fleeting Joys fb page this evening: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19vGH68h5Z/
I’m sad to share with the Fleeting Joys community that Rorika passed in late July. I’m sorry I couldn’t share it earlier. She was my person. She had been dealing with a serious illness since 2000 and she went out like a Viking. She was fierce and feminine. She was a glorious woman of immense strength, softness, intelligence, style, charm, and integrity. Her voice was a very special gem. Her musical taste was immaculate and exploratory, and her sense of humor was surprisingly random and original. She was as spiritual as she was a prepper. She was an incredibly involved and caring mother. She loved music, and was grateful for the people she connected with over the years. The world is less special without her.
