The Scissor Sisters are to join the Pet Shop Boys as a headline act at the three-day Bestival music event on the Isle of Wight in September.

It is the only confirmed UK gig this summer for the American group.

Also added to the line-up are indie act Mystery Jets, Irish folk musician John Martyn and Nizlopi, who reached number one with a song about riding a JCB.

Among the DJs playing sets will be Terry Hall, formerly of Fun Boy Three, and BBC Radio 1's Annie Nightingale.

The festival, at Robin Hill Country Park in Newport, has already announced that the Stranglers, the Fall and Kid Creole and the Coconuts will be playing.

Organiser and DJ Rob da Bank is due on stage, and also on the bill are his Radio 1 colleagues Huw Stephens and Zane Lowe.

Lowe appears with his group Breaks Co-op, which he started in New Zealand in the late 1990s.

Other artists playing at Bestival include electronic group Hot Chip, Canadian blues harmonica player Son of Dave, and the Bikini Beach Band, who specialise in surf-themed cover versions of classic hits.

The event takes place from 8 to 10 September.

Yes dadaismus that does say Irish.

I thought the perfect ILM approved line up would've generated some answers...

i was meant to be playing there tonight but my flight got cancelled and there was no way to get there on time. bummer.

I wish I was there again. The forecast is good too.

This looks like a great festival, but there's something about the 'lets try and generate a crazy Glasto vibe' that strikes me as a bit orgafun.

Also this.

Also another reason I didn't go this year despite a decent line-up is I assumed that, being September, the weather would be shit. So I bought a Glastonbury ticket instead.

Matt DC, Saturday, 8 September 2007 10:49 (eighteen years ago)

haha. well it was certainly fecking hot. no big surprises band-wise though.

the orgafun element is a worry from an outsider's pov i guess, but it doesn't feel like that when you're there. the fancy dress is a massive highlight for me because i love that people make so much imaginative effort, but i can see why it could rankle with fun-haters some discerning folk. it really is the people not dressed up who end up feeling a bit silly and curmudgeonly.

it's certainly not a festival to go to if you're feeling earnest and existential...

Sorry, someone else wanted them and then cancelled and I didn't realise they'd been taken off sale. They're back now. Click on the "buy" box then scroll down and click on Bestival.

wow Nizlopi, there's a word that hasn't entered my mind in the last four years.

This was great but the crowd is getting disconcertingly young. First time I've felt old at a festival, especially during Tinie Tempah.
