so anyone have it yet? music writer types?

i just got lucky and found a used copy and i love it so far, though it is shorter and a bit less heavy. first track's much more psychedelic in vibe than i was expecting.

talk about it! and how about that forthcoming split 10" with current 93?

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Friday, 21 April 2006 05:33 (nineteen years ago)

?? No Idea, what is it?

At first I thought of the same titled album by saddar bazaar on delerium rekkids, which is pretty good, sort of 3rd ear band-ish.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 21 April 2006 08:49 (nineteen years ago)

It's a good record. Not sure if I like it as much as the 1st. But it's pretty good. Not heard the forthcoming split.

Norman, OM are(were) the rhythm section of Sleep.
Check them out!

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 21 April 2006 08:58 (nineteen years ago)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 21 April 2006 09:05 (nineteen years ago)

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 21 April 2006 09:13 (nineteen years ago)

Coulnd't find any clips :(

Review sounds great, I'll stick it on the list.

The cover is beautiful.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 21 April 2006 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

Get both albums. Well worth it. I'm hoping the new album comes out on vinyl soon as thats what i've got the 1st album on.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 21 April 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

i love this album, its so foggy but a little short too

rizzx, Friday, 21 April 2006 09:46 (nineteen years ago)

I would be interested to know more about this group. "Conference of the Birds" is of course the title of a collection of poetry by the Sufi Farid ud-din Attar in the 12th century c.e.

The Dave Holland quartet--at that time Sam Rivers, Anthony Braxton, and Barry Altschul--recorded an album of the same name in 1972 and it remains one of the all time improvisational jazz classics, and the title tune is the complete refutation of those who claim "free jazz" musicians cannot master/play their instruments.

I guess I'll go read up on these new incarnations of the lovebirds of ud-din Attar.

It's not much like either of the previous Conference of the Birds but it does sort of fit into that lineage. Apropos title. The Dave Holland album rules all.

mcd (mcd), Friday, 21 April 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

cant wait to hear it - the first one is fucking great

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Saturday, 22 April 2006 04:33 (nineteen years ago)

Whenever this album officially comes out (Holy Mountain, please be a little better with updating your webpage) I cannot wait to get it. I didn't care for the first album, but the first track off this one is just beautiful.

Mickey (modestmickey), Saturday, 22 April 2006 06:06 (nineteen years ago)

the two release dates i saw were the 17th and the 24th, so it's either out or out soon. fusetron has listed it already.

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Saturday, 22 April 2006 06:15 (nineteen years ago)

Holland / Braxburger "Conference" rules all!!

never even heard the first OM, tho i am anxious too.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 22 April 2006 06:15 (nineteen years ago)

Love love LOVE this album. In my top 3 of the year, definitely.

Harpal (harpal), Saturday, 22 April 2006 06:47 (nineteen years ago)

Picked up "variations on a theme" last night, very good & relentless. Looking forward to hearing this new one now.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 22 April 2006 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

can't wait to hear this. cover looks great.

nervous.gif (eman), Saturday, 22 April 2006 17:27 (nineteen years ago)

This album rules, we just drove around town listening to it. They've got the rock. Freaky lyrics too, and lots of them, not just little mantra phrases but extended, visionary texts.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Saturday, 22 April 2006 22:16 (nineteen years ago)

You lucky NYC'ers have 2 shows coming this week.

4/29 @ the Knitting Factory with growing, pearls and brass, neptune and wooden wand.

Om and Growing!! what a bill!!

I think theres another show in Brooklyn on the 28th.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 23:37 (nineteen years ago)

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 23:42 (nineteen years ago)

sucks that the knitting factory show is clearly the one to go to and i fucking can't. didn't people used to announce shows more than 4 days in advance?

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 23:50 (nineteen years ago)

I saw it on the Southern Lord board. I have no idea when it was announced. I just thought i'd mention it here since noone else had.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 00:10 (nineteen years ago)

OMG - if I lived in NY I would go to both those shows.
OM is greatness. This album is greatness.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

I will see the Friday OM show, and also the Saturday Michael Hurley show cuz i will probably miss michael hurley on friday due to working. fucking gay working.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Thursday, 27 April 2006 03:20 (nineteen years ago)

Is Major Stars worth seeking out? I've heard some samples but they didn't really convince me

rizzx (rizzx), Thursday, 27 April 2006 06:51 (nineteen years ago)

Yes! They have added a girl singer for the new album, so if you prefer instrumental stuff then check out the albums before.
I'd say Major Stars 4 is a good place to start as it has the studio version of my fave song on it.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 27 April 2006 06:57 (nineteen years ago)

what's so good about them? i need to know hehe

rizzx (rizzx), Thursday, 27 April 2006 07:04 (nineteen years ago)

The rock fucking hard. That's their best and most useful quality.

mcd (mcd), Thursday, 27 April 2006 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

ENDLESS BOOGIE AND OM? MOTHERFUCKER.

pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Thursday, 27 April 2006 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
O-M-G this album is so good
I can't believe I missed that Brooklyn show

The only upcoming show listed is July 23rd in CA ;|

Chris Bee (Cee Bee), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:13 (nineteen years ago)

four months pass...
So, got to see them on Saturday and spoke with Chris the drummer briefly at their merch booth beforehand; v. friendly dude. The show was excellent and if you're so inclined do enjoy my photos...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 October 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

still my favorite album of the year I think

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Monday, 23 October 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

A stunningly obvious point on my part but what I liked about their set was the variety -- the full on throb was entrancing, literally, while being able to maintain that intense atmosphere at low volume isn't a new thing but it's always great to see bands who can do that *very* well, especially with a hyped-up crowd in front of them. I'm glad to finally have the albums now (picked up the Japanese version of Conference with the track from the Six Organs split, as well as Variations and the EP with Current 93).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 October 2006 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

great pics, ned.

waiting for the c93 split on cd. waiting... waiting...

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 01:46 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks! (So that hasn't been officially released yet? Heck, guess I'm lucky!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 01:51 (nineteen years ago)

i wish they would TOUR dammit

am0n (am0n), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 04:28 (nineteen years ago)

three months pass...
Wow, here it is, after all. The thread I was told on the Sandbox existed. Cool.

Anyway I can see why folks say their first album was better now. But I suspect Albini will make it all alright.

Also they are playing here in...about a week, actually.

Lick The Strobelight Lollipops (Bimble...), Saturday, 27 January 2007 12:15 (nineteen years ago)

Them with Albini is really...I get the feeling those two couldn't have avoided colliding if they'd tried.

Lick The Strobelight Lollipops (Bimble...), Saturday, 27 January 2007 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

So, Pilgrimage. I'm getting heavy raga vibes.
