I'm new in DC and trying to crack into the hiphop scene. Any place with ongoing shows etc? Helpful links/message boards also nice...

despite knowing about 90% of what there is to know about the Balitmore rap scene, I know next to nothing about D.C.'s scene outside of a handful of names and songs. if I can remember anything interesting I'll post it, though. (x-post)

Bar Nun on U st hosts open mic nights i think. There's also a record/cd store on U St you should check out--"Mad (uh I forgot the name)." MN8 productions sometimes does shows with DC rappers at indie-rock club Black Cat. Lots of go-go shows take place across the DC line in PG County Maryland. There are likely rap events out there also. Commerical stations WPGC and WKYS once in awhile spotlight local rappers, and public station WPFW at 89.3 from 11 to 12 mdt. Mon. to either Thurs. or Friday sometimes gives attention to local rap. Sarah Godfrey and others have written about local rappers in the Washington City Paper.

DC rapper Storm the Unpredictable has a website I think.

ah cool, I hadn't heard about that. One Up is actually more Baltimore-based than D.C., they got Bossman signed to Virgin and are working with a few other Maryland-based artists.
