Essential Mix jingles - AARRGGHHH!!

Does anybody know who is responsible for playing Radio 1 Essential Mix jingles over the DJ mixes? Is it Pete Tong? Or radio 1 staff? Or DJs/artists themselves? I just finished editing out one particularly nasty case of them from Nathan Fake live set. It starts about 30min into the show over one of the most beautiful tracks in the set (which is also a non-album track) and then gets rudely ruined by "essential" voiceover for over a minute.

AARRGGGH!

typically its Radio 1 that puts them in. although I know Zabiela did his own for his mix in 2004.

i was under the impression Fake did the same thing for his set (just don't know if it is the one at the 30min mark, the pirates who have the booty on SLSK are a bit slow :(

"i was under the impression Fake did the same thing for his set"

it might be true as it's synchronized with the track, but it completely ruins the mood :(

next you'll be telling us you don't like crowd noise on live albums!!

vahid -

oh no, i love put-through-the-flanger/reverb/quantitizor voice-overs no matter how cheesy, but usually they're placed better (like over a transition) and don't stand up as much with all the other voice samples.

the EM jingles sounded really, really good over the (unused) chemical brothers EM (you can get it, it's a mix cd called "dusted decks") and over the blackstrobe mix. and the global communication mix, too.

if i recall right, they put the jingles in during the huge rushy buildups and the parts when the DJs were slowing the tracks to beatmatch. on the digital mixes it sounds great when they do this - especially if they flange and reverb it, like you said.

it's like the mix suddenly gets that early jungle quality of fucked-up timestretchyness.

"global communication mix" -

you mean the latest Middleton "Star Wars" mix? yeah, i was going to use it as a good example, it actually adds to the mix.

engineers do the whole show for pete tong. tong does nothing put talk into the mic. they get the sets prerecorded and the engineer puts it into protools then adds the jingles at the appropirate time. tong shows up, turns on the mic and reads his cards. he may improv a bit but as far as the music goes, that's all preprogrammed by his engineers.

i think the orb said it best...something about tong poo?
