TV Rock "Flaunt It": Classic or fucking A-mega-Classic?

I realize it charted in Australia a while ago, but I finally got this 12" single while I was over there, and this is one of my favorite dance tracks right now. Absolutely fucking ace.

"This is my floor.... you're just dancin' on it"

All the mixes on this single are excellent.

No Donut it is evil! Evil! Evil! It gives mersh electro-house a bad name.

Maybe I wouldn't hate it so much if it hadn't inspired a raft of imitators in Australia, all worse than the previous. I dislike it more for what it represents than for the track itself.

Also it is ridiculously overplayed on radio.

File under "Grass Is Greener On Other Side Of Ocean".. :D

I don't mind some of what gets overplayed on U.S. radio, but nothing like TV Rock would chart here, much less pale imitators.. part of why this track excites me.

Then again, I love "Call On Me", which still triggers upchucks in the UK... so what do I know? heh.

I still need to hear the original version of this! Don't think it's made any impact over the Tasman at all.

If you can't s1sk it, I can provide a link to a tempoary page on my webspace with a why-ess-eye link... (which wouldn't be violating ILX law, but correct me if I'm wrong.)

I actually think it is the most worthy number one in Oz for quite some time...

I actually prefer "Forever Young"! Which is like a total reversal of my usual genre biases.

It's not that i have a problem with hyper-commercial sleazy electro-house - I've been championing Quesh's "Candy Girl" for ages, and "Flaunt It" is basically that with a stronger euro-hip-house feel.

I do like it more than "Never Say Never" or the Dirty South remix of "It's Too Late" or any of the other subsequent contenders, but I also directly blame it for them as well I guess (perhaps unfairly).

I can't help but feel that, structurally, it is to electro-house as Room 5's "Make Luv" was to phased disco.

"Forever Young" is perhaps the WORST number one in recent memory! Not a patch on the Interactive version from 1995, let alone the original!

Ha ha but surely better than Newton's version!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 23 April 2006 11:17 (twenty years ago)

I don't even remember that one. But if it was as bad as the other Newton singles, Youth Group might just have avoided being the bottom of the barrel.

two months pass...
This song is brilliant! And that's all I can think of to say right now.

I think i like it more now, probably because in the last month or so there have been so many utterly despicable Australian electro-house tracks that "Flaunt It" looks impossibly good by comparison.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

Is it as good as the Sigue Sigue Sputnik album Flaunt It?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

Sleeker.
