i hope this puts them back on the map...it's great

manuel (manuel), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 00:19 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I think they are being distributed by Intergroove now. Force had morphed into the Disco Inc label, but now it seems they are going back to Force Tracks?

Anyway, Digital Disco 3, mixed by Unai should be out this year too! Link: http://www.forcetracks.com/36.html

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 14 May 2006 21:05 (twenty years ago)

Wow the sound on this is just spectacular. Those luminescent vocals!

gaseous (gaseous), Monday, 15 May 2006 06:13 (twenty years ago)

"premature wig"!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 May 2006 06:39 (twenty years ago)

this is ok.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 May 2006 14:33 (twenty years ago)

At this point this is ok. about sums about where my bought-yesterday copy sinks in.

The first track definitely (and dare I say, misleadingly) revs you up, but the rest of it is some kind of Present Lover-Luomo/Richard Davis hybrid which would be fine if I hadn't just picked-up/listened to Details for the first time less than a month ago.

Zimmer026 (Zimmer026), Monday, 15 May 2006 20:08 (twenty years ago)

What I meant to say was:

At this point this is ok about sums up where my bought-yesterday copy has thus far sunk in.

Zimmer026 (Zimmer026), Monday, 15 May 2006 20:10 (twenty years ago)

Richard Davis "Details". i've never heard of this! recommended?

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 May 2006 20:34 (twenty years ago)

too samey.

strongo hulkington wishes he had as many $100-dollar bills as i do (dubplatestyl, Monday, 15 May 2006 20:35 (twenty years ago)

the unai?

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 May 2006 20:37 (twenty years ago)

rfi : richard davis (the microhouse one)

neutral about the album, haven't heard it, doesn't really appeal.

fandango (fandango), Monday, 15 May 2006 20:38 (twenty years ago)

don't like the Richard Davis record greatly, it's too heavily ripped off Superpitcher and Superpitcher didn't need vocals most of the time.

I do like this Unai alot though.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 May 2006 20:46 (twenty years ago)

First Richard Davis album totally pwns the second as far as diversity/listenability goes.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 15 May 2006 20:48 (twenty years ago)

hooray!
-- Ronan (ronan.fitzgerald6NOSPA...), May 9th, 2006 3:18 AM. (Ronan)

it's "hoorai!" obv

jäxøñ (jaxon), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:06 (twenty years ago)

aye.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:08 (twenty years ago)

dude, when will you learn

aye --> ai

jäxøñ (jaxon), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:12 (twenty years ago)

don't you mean learne?

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:14 (twenty years ago)

it's too samey cause, yeah, it's a concept album, obv tracking a relationship from beginning to end.

"exit wounds" fucking melts me everytime.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:22 (twenty years ago)

im not sure about the record as a whole...the fact that it seems to be 3x12" is further offputting.

but im v pleased to finally identify "i like your style"

it was the tune on a dyson mix i had where the cd stopped abruptly halfway thru it, and i alwasy wanted to know what that tune was.

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:25 (twenty years ago)

"too samey" is not a problem but "okay" is.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:27 (twenty years ago)

maybe! i've only listened to it 1.5 times through.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:28 (twenty years ago)

bananas in the sky (dayvidday), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:52 (twenty years ago)

i can't get over Premature Wig as an artist name.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:56 (twenty years ago)

please listen to this more, haters!

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:56 (twenty years ago)

don't like the Richard Davis record greatly, it's too heavily ripped off Superpitcher and Superpitcher didn't need vocals most of the time.

Not sure I've heard what you've heard. To be sure, there's some breathy vocals in both, but musically Davis has headed in a slightly more micro/electrosoul (cf. Herbert) direction, whereas Superpitcher has made, more or less, minimal house his home.

Plus, as far as one ripp[ing] off the other is concerned, the timeline of their releases would seem to indicate, to me at least, that the two artists and their respective releases (i.e., sounds) developed in parallel, not as a result or direct reflection of each other.

On the other hand, to say one artist hasn't had occasion to influence another would be to ignore the "sharing" that goes on throughout music, and I won't pretend that that isn't as true in electronic music as it is in pop. But still...

Fwiw, most of this has little or nothing to do with UNAI.

Zimmer026 (Zimmer026), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 12:03 (twenty years ago)

please listen to this more, haters!

I am listening to it more and a A Love Moderne is growing (it's a grower!!) on me. It's probably a mood thing, but in these parts it hasn't stopped raining in over a week (isn't forecast to stop for another week) and "Blissful Burden" just tugged at my heart (and "Love Moderne" was the winner late last night).

Zimmer026 (Zimmer026), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 12:41 (twenty years ago)

the track, ["Moderne Love"] was the winner late last night

Zimmer026 (Zimmer026), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 12:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure that point about their development is true really, and I don't agree Superpitcher makes "minimal house", what's minimal about Superpitcher?

I dunno, for me "Bring Me Closer" was great but the album just sounded heavily heavily influenced by Superpitcher; except with those vocals everywhere.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 18:42 (twenty years ago)

"Minimal" in the Cologne-minimal, Kompakt sort-of-way.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 18:48 (twenty years ago)

I don't agree Superpitcher makes "minimal house", what's minimal about Superpitcher?

I wonder how you say tomato. If Superpitcher ≠ minimal, in which genre does Superpitcher's music (e.g., with tracks like "Tomorrow" or "Happiness" or "Even Angels" in mind) reside?

As for my point in re: the artists' respective development, Superpitcher had four releases (according to discogs, three 12" singles and one 7") prior to Davis' first LP dropping (wherein his sound, although not exactly what one hears on Details, was nonetheless headed in that direction).

Just dunno whether Davis had time or inclination to ape Aksel's sound.

Zimmer026 (Zimmer026), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 19:47 (twenty years ago)

"Exit Wounds" and especially "Blissful Burden" are very beautiful. Unfortunately, the rest of it sounds like rather good, but not especially distinguished micro-house. I was thinking that almost any of the other tracks could have come from Digital Disco 2, and in a not very interesting way.

i'm from hollywood, Tuesday, 16 May 2006 21:52 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I don't think Davis has been especially influenced by Superpitcher, there's heaps of other german house with breathy male vocals that sound closer to Davis than Superpitcher does. There are definitely similarities though.

Given Davis's close connections to Swayzak I wouldn't be surprised if his sound was very much shaped by the work on e.g. Himawari.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 23:32 (twenty years ago)

I heart Details. It was a great vocal house album. Maybe not perfect for the dancefloor but lovely in the home.

I would bet on Himawari as influence as well.

Besides Details blows away the Superpitcher album. How fast did that album fade?

hector (hector), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 03:07 (twenty years ago)

I liked the track I heard on the Stylus podcast, but Cutty's recommendation seals this for me!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 03:13 (twenty years ago)

oy vey!

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 03:46 (twenty years ago)

Hey all. Just got Unai's album "A Love Moderne" myself.

I love it, I can't say much that hasn't already been said, except a question- which is the correct pronounciation?
YOU nye
OO nye

I'm sure Erik Moller isn't too worried, as long as his records are selling- I just don't want to sound dorkier than I already am when discussing this stuff.
