Is Blood and Fire's "Fisherman" comp not the best thing ever?

I haven't asked a question in ages, but I think this rercord desrves a wee bit of a mention. Way to go Steve Barrow! I hope they do more of this. "Fisherman" is amazing, as was the "Sattamassagana" comp a coupla years back.

Dammit is this actually out? I forgot to check before I placed my monthly Ernie B's order.

Haven't heard it yet, I've been all up on Heartbeat's early Wailers thing and a Jack Ruby Hi-Fi CD I found in Oz - will keep an eye out for "Fisherman" though!

That Jack Ruby Hi-Fi thing is amazing if it's the one with "Peace Time In The City" on it.

Yeah, the Fisherman comp is great too. Think I prefer CD 2 mostly, although Gregory Isaacs sounds a bit...shaky, let's say.

The Abyssinians and Friends - The Tree of Satta Vol 1

Is this the other one you're referring to?

Is it that good? Does Big Youth compare to the Big Youth of 1975? I mean, we all know the rhythm is great but can the Lee Perry dub and the orig tune be topped, or even built upon, in a way that doesn't come off pale in comparison? It seems like almost an impossible task. Definitely want to hear it though.

I'm kind of intrigued to check out the Rhythm & Sound editing job on the original

So does the Rhythm & Sound edit come with all new singers atop the remastered old dubs?

Excited to hear this.

i've got a few of the 7's - the rhythm doesnt sound much different to me

U-Roy and Big Youth do an ok job...but the best vocals for me are Lutan Fyah and Luciano...and Michael Rose is good also

Yeah, I am talking about "Tree of Satta." The Capleton on that absolutely kills. Wicked tune.

I like the U-Roy and the Big Youth, but Luciano is amazing. I'm just happy someone is doing this type of thing. Blood and Fire have really tapped into something interesting by releasing records like this. Sure, a lot of riddims are redone and revoiced, but the choice and quality of the Sattamassagana and Fisherman are ideal.

Not the quite the bargains they appear once VAT and postage are added on, but still some good deals here on older B&F releases - £4.25 basic price:
