Intriguing to me, as I didn't realize this was still an ongoing thing.
Anyone privy to such info or know anyone who is? Just curious as to what it's like these days in comparison to the almost biblical parables parlayed from the days of old....

anyone ever go to the beauty and the beat/deep church parties in london? run by these extremely friendly french audiophile dudes (led by cedric woo who i think was "mentored" by david mancuso and is a member of some kind of secret dj clique made up of loft alumni). the deep church parties are held at their house in north london. the music (and sound) is amazing, lots of loft classics, deep house, disco, krautrock, dub, techno, postpunk, anything goes pretty much if you can dance to it. beardo i guess. and the atmosphere is great, really relaxed (and debauched). and i think mancuso himself comes over every so often. some of the best parties i've been to all year if not ever. here are some links:

I think the last Loft party was this past sunday. I always hear about it but forget to do anything to get on the list to find out/be allowed.

Ok, anyone who has even the slightest smattering of interest in disco and dance culture in general absolutely needs to get these comps. If you are a hi-fi head, the sound is gorgeous, apparently Mancuso had very strict guidelines with Nuphonic in terms of how to press the vinyl, took exacting measures to get the most out of the original recordings. I am so surprised there is not more discussion on these comps on ILM.

I got volume 2 on vinyl and no turntable. :(
― Eric H., Monday, 9 June 2008 05:05 (seventeen years ago)
I bought these way back when mail order directly from Mancuso. I came home one day and the man himself had left a message on my machine to call him if I "had any questions about the recordings." (!!!)

I think the last Loft party was this past sunday
"the last" as in it's all over? what's the story? not that I would likely ever go, it was just kinda cool to know it was still running after however many decades
― dmr, Monday, 9 June 2008 18:59 (seventeen years ago)
or did you mean "most recent"
by last I meant "most recent". Far as I know.
― dan selzer, Monday, 9 June 2008 19:51 (seventeen years ago)
I'm listening to the comp and to my surprise it's unmixed..
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Saturday, 5 September 2009 06:31 (sixteen years ago)
but mancuso famously doesn't believe in mixing.
― dan selzer, Saturday, 5 September 2009 13:39 (sixteen years ago)
I think he was joking, no?

huh, had no idea he was still alive
loved the parts in Love Saves the Day about him (I recall being surprised at how much the origins of the nyc disco scene resemble today's hipster sleazy loft dance party scenes), and that nuphonic mix was a crucial intro to disco for me
RiP

Could never find affordable copies of the Nuponic vinyl Loft collections, though haven't looked in a while---this Mancuso-inspired (incl. no mixes) set might or might not be available now:
Siano the Times
Mercury rising as disco evolves out of its prior knowledge
by Don AllredJanuary 11th, 2005 2:14 PM Issue 02 village voice
Nicky Siano's Legendary the Gallery: New York's original disco 1973-1977Soul Jazz import
In the early '70s, a teenage DJ named Nicky Siano traveled the space-wisedancefloor of David Mancuso's Loft, before launching his own Gallery. (Gallerykid Larry Levan later levitated Paradise Garage; he and Siano also worked with disco mystic Arthur Russell.) Despite acid, balloons, andthe food bar, the Gallery wasn't always totally blissed-out. In the bookletincluded with his new Soul Jazz Records compilation Nicky Siano'sLegendary the Gallery, Nicky describes an innovative sound design, logicallybased on and evolving with the rooms and scenes he performed in as the feast moved around NYC.The Gallery opened in the summer of '73. Couch-potato arena rock ruled. Notwaiting for a "new" radio hit formula, club DJs and dancers (especially blacks,Latinos, gays) were among those who chose to carve fresh heat from the vinylbeast. And The Gallery is mercury stillrising, through scientifically selected, crosstown funk, soul, and one gospelsong, personalized: Gloria Spencer proclaims: "I got it! I don't understand itI got it!" A jet blasts (like, "Amen!") out of Exuma's "Obeah Man." The Temptationslay down the "Law of the Land": "You might not like who you are, but youbetter start. 'Cause you sure can't be nobody else." But the music spins like aroulette wheel. Meanwhile, turns out that Bonnie Bramlett's "Crazy 'Bout MyBaby" is crazy like a tambourine and a fox, shaking in wait for that slowhanddobro.Other adepts, like Loleatta Holloway, Bobby Womack, Bill Withers, the Isleys, and Undisputed Truth, also make the most of prior knowledge and surprise.Without waiting for the remix: These are original (full-length) LP tracks andseven-inch singles. Yet great breaks burst out of (and roll through) goodgrooves, good songs. Often.See http://www.nickysiano.com/ and http://www.timlawrence.info/.More online resources by now, no doubt.
