x-post -- I think I knew and chose to forget. But "Someone Like You" is pure genius.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i really love that song.

almost as much as i used to love sleeze beez's "stranger than paradise."

maura (maura), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 15:42 (nineteen years ago)

Heheh. What's great about the Bang Tango video is the bit right before the singing fully starts where vocalist guy is pounding the wall in time. ART.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

skid row, "monkey business"

maura (maura), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 15:46 (nineteen years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

Even in 1990, I was fully aware that Trixter was comprised entirely of dorks.

Warrant - "Uncle Tom's Cabin"

WTF was up with that song? Jesus!

Eppy (Eppy), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

I blame Youtube for many wasted hours, especially now.

The Mercury Krueger (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

I think it followed "Janie's Got a Gun" in the short-lived trend of "metal noir."

xpost

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:14 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, when jani lane previewed it at the motley crue/warrant show i went to in 1989 he was very excited about "the story it told"

maura (maura), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

Here is a video of a bunch of Marines' photos in Iraq set to "Wind of Change." I can't find the real video for that song but here is Scorpions "Big City Nights" because you can never see enough footage of German guys signing chests.

Eppy (Eppy), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

I mean I guess if anyone's going to forget the very clear rule "If you are a white dude don't write a song called 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'" it'd be Jani Lane, but still. I think that song made me uncomfortable even when I was 10.

Good use of banjo, though. With the chorus on!

Eppy (Eppy), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

Pretty dire stuff outside of Summertime Girls. One of the worst gigs I ever attended: Extreme & Precious Metal at the Cat Club. Extreme -- headliner for the above and "Play That Funky Music, White Boy." Too many people in magazine and MTV-ville had convinced themselves that Extreme were actually good at that kind of stuff. Yechh. You can't give away their old shit away in 2006.

Extreme may have been the most consistantly wretched "pro" band of alleged musos I ever regularly witnessed. Who liked this awful band? Always dependably bad onstage. Plus suffer through the ballads of Cherone and the lugubrious guitar player, revered as a shredder for about fifteen minutes in guitar mags. Part of the ersatz funk-is-taking-over-metal revival ballyhoo'd n RIP and Creem mags in the late 80's. Anyone want my shitty Electric Boys tapes and CDs?

I've always been a fan of Lita but this isn't her best moment.

George 'the Animal' Steele, Thursday, 4 May 2006 07:59 (nineteen years ago)

Pretty dire stuff outside of Summertime Girls.

Heh...I was looking for some of the more overlooked pop metal vids, the ones from 84-86 that predated the poodleheads of 87-90. The really cheesy stuff. Man, Y&T's videos sucked, but I will defend the song "Summertime Girls" to my dying day.

Kick Axe's Vices, though, a truly underrated album from that era.

a. begrand (a begrand), Thursday, 4 May 2006 08:29 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
Removal "4.03"

Not a "hair metal" band as much as a current take on a late 80s SST/Cruz instrametal hair rock type band who are decent on record, but much better live IMHO. Anyway, lots of hair whip action... obligatory potentially-nsfw gonch shots here and there.
