It's the NME-approved, Lex-baiting fusion of grime and indie!

Here's The Rakes and Lethal B delivering what can only be described as a 21st century version of "Radio Song": http://youtube.com/watch?v=Xe6coqAoDC0&search=rakes%2022%20grand

Here we await all the other fantastic songs that this genre will obviously cough up.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 08:13 (nineteen years ago)

Hey Dom, why does Stylus fucking such so much now?

Bring Me The Head of ESTEBAN BUTTEZ (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

Suck, not such. I mean, really.

Bring Me The Head of ESTEBAN BUTTEZ (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 08:17 (nineteen years ago)

Peter Mark Such (born June 12, 1964 in Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire) is an English cricketer. Such was bought into the Test arena in 1993 as a replacement for John Emburey but despite taking 6 for 67 on debut only played an initial 4 Tests before having to wait 5 years before his next appearance.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 08:18 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, why do I like this ?

snowballing (snowballing), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 08:19 (nineteen years ago)

Do you think England has any chance of keeping The Ashes? Me, I think they got no chance in Australia.

Bring Me The Head of ESTEBAN BUTTEZ (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 08:19 (nineteen years ago)

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 11:11 (nineteen years ago)

The Lethal B collab is BY FAR the best thing on the album

and you can take that how you like

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

so over.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

How the fuck is he going to buy a house in Hampstead with £22k?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

LETHAL BIZZLE AND HIS RAKES IN THE LINK AT THE TOP OF THIS THREAD GOOD SIR.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 14:07 (nineteen years ago)

this wasnt an april fool cos i heard em do it live. its not good.

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 15:02 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think that's a bad piece given what she has to work with, ie something not yet justifying the word count it's been given

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 5 May 2006 09:35 (nineteen years ago)

That article succeeded in winding me up the tube this morning. So many bizarre assertions. Nice to see them spell Wiley's name wrong also.

(A couple of pages before, a caption informs us that the film Short Cuts is based on the stories of John Cheever!)

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Friday, 5 May 2006 09:37 (nineteen years ago)

hah!

sophie's first line is a deft bit of self-parody.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Friday, 5 May 2006 09:44 (nineteen years ago)

I knew the only way they could make Lex like his second-favourite style of music (grime) would be by meshing it with his favourite (indie).

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 5 May 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

okay that lethal-bizzle-and-rakes thing is not as unpleasant as I imagined it being (i'd never heard 22 grand job before), it actually kind of works once you get over the original horror. It's better than Plan B with his guitar doing acoustic grime. :(

permanent revolution (cis), Friday, 5 May 2006 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

rappers talking about nipple-sucking to Bloc Party singing about a girl using her breasts.

wtf.... "using her breasts"????? "nipple-sucking"???

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 5 May 2006 10:26 (nineteen years ago)

'using her breasts' is code for, i don't know, titwank.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Friday, 5 May 2006 10:28 (nineteen years ago)

as for grindie, "fire" has got guitars in it, its probably the best grindie tune

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 5 May 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

the idea of bloc party singing about titwanks amuses me.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Friday, 5 May 2006 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

Was there ever anything more predictable than "grindie"?

jz, Friday, 5 May 2006 11:33 (nineteen years ago)

Napalm Death Cab for Cutie

do you pronounce this gry-ndee or gren-dee

-+-+-+++- (ooo), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

"i'm just grindie, jack"

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

I always read it as "grin-dee", which makes it sound kinda like a clown.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

yr wrong "nipple-sucking" only got a ???

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 5 May 2006 14:48 (nineteen years ago)

I've just realised what that Rakes/Bizzle track reminds me of. "Diamonds and Guns".

Lovelace (Lovelace), Monday, 8 May 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

I havent listened to this but everything I've read about grindie makes me cringe. Just the name for fucks sake...

Lovelace (Lovelace), Monday, 8 May 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

Is this not just taking the worst bits of both genres and mashing it up, instead of the good bits...?

gekoppel (Gekoppel), Monday, 8 May 2006 23:31 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, all the great bits of grime and haircut indie are being ignored in this.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 8 May 2006 23:33 (nineteen years ago)

Sarcastic! No I mean there are really good bits, but especially the kinds of indie bands Statik has got really don't fit at all... it just ends up tending towards the yob end of the spectrum in both genres... (shoutyness- the eastlondoness of it all...) rather than intriguing poly rhythms or whatever finesse actually hooked some people into grime in the first place...

gekoppel (Gekoppel), Monday, 8 May 2006 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, but the whole idea is to give grime artists who's sale figures won't stretch to them being able to buy a new juicer (ie, all of them) a chance to piggyback some indie bands of various successes to higher sales figure, it was never going to be the most thoughtful and in-depth and revolutionary of genres. I mean, it's gonna be yobbish and populist and REAL MEN DRINKING BEER AND SHAGGING BIRDS and Lethal B and the Rakes just going "Garlic bread? Garlic? Bread?" at each other for four hours.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 8 May 2006 23:48 (nineteen years ago)

Who are going to be the Specials of Grindie?

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 00:49 (nineteen years ago)

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 07:33 (nineteen years ago)

grime artists aspire to buying juicers?

Surely the grime/indie crossover should have been called "Brrrap Your Hands Say Yeah".

That's it. That's my joke.

Lethal B and the Rakes just going "Garlic bread? Garlic? Bread?" at each other for four hours.

Would be better than "Dancing with the Rudeboys"

Any thread that finds time for Peter Such gets my blessing.

Just got offed, Sunday, 18 November 2007 20:50 (seventeen years ago)

Was listening to "The Avenue" earlier on, Roll Deep should have done a guest verse at the end of The Fray's "How to Save A Life", that'd be a single of the year contender then

Dom Passantino, Sunday, 18 November 2007 21:00 (seventeen years ago)
