I like Ally's idea of Jim Steinman. But I like imagining this happening and Iglesias not singing anything -- comes out on stage to huge bombastic epic love-me horns, says, "Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes," then leaves.

He's got all these great songs about how he's so great in bed that his one night stands are all over him and how he loves to make his girlfriend cry cos he's a bastard and how no matter how much his ex- girlfriend runs from him she can't escape his "love". It's fantastic, his persona is super romantic Latino INSANE FREAK. He's like the Pepe Le Pew of the Latin invasion.

1)as Mickey Rourke stands in the desert, his shadow spirals around him to represent the passing of the day.
2)Mickey Rourke encounters a piano in a gutted out house, and plays the piano hook with the song! Non-diagetic sound becomes diagetic!
3)a belt or crowbar or something flies into Rourke's hand, seemingly in reverse motion. Naturally, he hits Enrique with it.
3)Enrique sings the most passionate part of the song in the rain while seemingly dying from bloody wounds administered by Mr. Rourke.
Putting Mickey Rourke in your video is so unbelievably classic it redeems the appearance of Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Can someone explain what happened to this guy? "I Like It" and "Tonight I'm (verb)ing You" are basically the same song. They are on the radio ALL THE TIME. He just sounds so...anonymous. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9_n8jakvWU&feature=artistob&playnext=1&list=TLhL2os-ytV8o
this one is unimaginative at besthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDtYkOrV4-E

I like "I Like It" well enough but "Tonight" is fucking ridiculous in a bad way.
― banjee trillness (The Reverend), Wednesday, 16 February 2011 02:01 (fifteen years ago)
i appreciate your willingness to talk about this terrible terrible song
i like "i like it" too, inasmuch as i wouldn't turn it off immediately, but usually i listen to "tonight" just long enough to see if they bleep the "fucking" or replace it with "loving"either way, wtf at how horrible this song is
― Ralpharina (La Lechera), Wednesday, 16 February 2011 02:12 (fifteen years ago)
I just want to ask this simple question:
On July 12, 1995, Iglesias released his first album titled Enrique Iglesias, a collection of light rock ballads, including such mega-hits as "Si Tú Te Vas", "Experiencia Religiosa", and others. The record sold half a million copies in its first week, a rare accomplishment then for an album recorded in a language other than English.
in 2011 Enrique Iglesias is a 35 year old man who has a current squelch-synth dance pop hit in which he sings "Please excuse me, I don't mean to be rude, but tonight I'm fucking you"
I mean, que pasó?
Recent Spanish language hit "Cuando Me Enamoro" isn't that far off what he has done so far. It's not terrible. But this latest English language hit? Really bad.
I really don't get it. Am I missing something?

Please note: this video is downright adorable.

I don't know why I keep wanting to talk about Enrique Iglesias. I guess I spend a lot of time in the car listening to the radio. I listen to both Spanish (language) pop radio and English pop radio and I hear his songs all over both. Maybe this will be the code switching bilingual music in America thread or something.

What a weird background this guy hashe lied about being from guatemala?!
Iglesias was born in Madrid, Spain,[2] the third and last child of singer Julio Iglesias and socialite and magazine journalist Isabel Preysler. His mother is a Filipino of partial Spanish/Basque descent,[3] and his father is of Galician Spanish and Jewish ancestry.[4][5] His parents divorced in 1978, and the following year Julio moved to Miami, Florida, in the U.S. to continue with his musical career. In 1985, Enrique Iglesias' grandfather, Dr. Julio Iglesias Puga was kidnapped by the terrorist group ETA. For their safety, Enrique and his brother Julio Iglesias Jr. were sent to live with their father in Miami.[6] He also lived in Belgrade, Serbia, for one year with his mother, who worked as a journalist.[7] As his father's career kept him on the road, the young Iglesias was raised by the family nanny. He attended Gulliver Preparatory School[8] and went on to study business at the University of Miami.[9]Iglesias did not want his father to know about his plans for a musical career and did not want his famous surname to help advance his career. He borrowed money from his family nanny and he recorded a demo cassette tape which consisted of a Spanish song and two English songs. Approaching his father's former publicist, Fernan Martinez, the two promoted the songs under the stage name 'Enrique Martinez' with the backstory of being an unknown singer from Guatemala. Iglesias was signed by a record label called Fonovisa. After dropping out of college, he went to Toronto to record his first album.[10]

"Tonight I'm ______ing You" was pretty bad, but not even Usher can save this Dirty Dancer song. I hate every monotonous minute of it.

She's a dirty dirty dancer dirty dirty dancer Never ever lonelyShe's a dirty dirty dancer dirty dirty dancer She will never be your only
It's not even that the lyrics are terrible, which they are, but it's just that the song itself is so BORING. Enrique Iglesias has been to every nation, but he can't seem to figure out what he wants from life. He kind of reminds me of Mitt Romney.
― Garyln (La Lechera), Monday, 13 June 2011 15:26 (fourteen years ago)
"escape" was so good. actually he had several good songs. shame he keeps putting out shit like "dirty dancer" now.

"Bailamos" is still the joint.
― t-bomb burnett (some dude), Monday, 13 June 2011 19:41 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, he had some pretty good songs! I like Bailamos, and he seems like a reasonable person for the most part. I just want to know who convinced him to make increasingly terrible songs in English. His songs in Spanish are pretty good! There has to be a story here -- does he have a contract to fulfill or something? Will one of you interview him so that I can find out?

So apparently this is the 6th most viewed video on Youtube but I had not heard it until today, a bit weird that it doesn't seem to have had any impact in Northern EU, charted #75 in UK

Makes me want to party...
Also reminds me of being in Guatemala. Didn't understand at the time how pronounced the "latin american" culture was, but from a distance, listening to a song like this, I kinda see why it's not a hit in Denmark and it makes me want to go back to enjoy it there (if that makes sense)
I see Romeo Santos is discussed a bit on the rolling afro-latin thread, his brilliant "Propuesta Indecente" is with 678.000.000 views the 20th most viewed video
