what about oboes?

ok, so i saw the thread debating the merits of the flute in (for lack of a better word) "rock" music. what about oboes?? so far the best use i can think of is kate st. john of the dream academy (best used in "life in a northern town"). i'm surprised belle & sebastian haven't used one...

What I've always wondered is what about contrabassoons? THAT is a bad ass rock n' roll instrument, or at least it should be. Probably tough to fit into the frequency range of a rock band.
