Why should you hate it? Its great.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 5 May 2006 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

more classic than dud...it's a rare case of a song eclipsing it's sample...(I always thought Camille Yarbrough's "Take Yo' Praise" was a bit on the pedestrian side anyway)...

Why should you hate it? Its great.

It's cheesy as hell.

Grand (grand), Friday, 5 May 2006 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

You say that like its a bad thing??

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 5 May 2006 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

It's not, of course. And, yes, I like that track a lot.

Grand (grand), Friday, 5 May 2006 19:37 (nineteen years ago)

Video=classic

Flour of my secret, Friday, 5 May 2006 19:42 (nineteen years ago)

It's great.

How can anyone hate a song that samples the Fat Albert Gang song?

Every time I hear it, I do the ol' cross-chest handshake with my neighbors.

Really? Wow - I have to disagree strongly. Camille's song is fantastic.

I'd disagree that Fatboy Slim's is the better, but I still love it.

My wife's all-time favorite song, as it turns out (second only to "Digging Your Scene" by the Blow Monkeys).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 5 May 2006 22:16 (nineteen years ago)

Boy, that is....fascinating, Alex.

As for me, I vote "classic," because it's better than most of the similar shit on Moby's Play released the following year.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Friday, 5 May 2006 22:25 (nineteen years ago)

I like "Praise You" a lot but there's no fucking way it's better than "Honey", "Run On", "Porcelain" or "Natural Blues". I think people hate Play more because of overexposure than because of any particular musical sins exhibited by the album itself.

Dan (I'll Grant You "Bodyrock" And "South Side") Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 5 May 2006 22:44 (nineteen years ago)

I definitely like "Praise You" more than "Honey" -- the gospel tropes on the former seem better integrated -- but I'll grant that "Natural Blues" and "Run On" are pretty good.

"Honey" and "Praise You" were released around the same time

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Saturday, 6 May 2006 00:00 (nineteen years ago)

What? Where the hell is the "Fat Albert" sample in "Praise You"?

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Saturday, 6 May 2006 01:04 (nineteen years ago)

I like it, but every time that shou-ou-ou-ou-ou-ou-ou-ould thing happens I expect it to get more kickass than it does. It's like macaroni and cheese that isn't quite cheesy enough, but you keep biting into it hoping the next bite will be more cheesy than the last.

genius

Great. From a rare time where I actually owned three records in the UK top ten - the other two being Let Me Clear My Throat and Da Funk. The b-side's pretty good as well in a country sampling kind of way.
