DFA's latest signings apparently. No Myspace page and no music on the internet (their webpage or anything). So what are they like - what do they sound like? Any tracks to look out for? Releases scheduled etc?

Ta!

You can't be a band or music act unless you have a MySpace page. IT'S THE LAW.

Bring Me The Head of ESTEBAN BUTTEZ (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Saturday, 6 May 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

Live, whatsdadeal?

peepee, Monday, 7 May 2007 01:37 (eighteen years ago)

Well, I thought they were going to open for LCD in Seattle, but in the end someone else did. So since these people are idiotic enough not to have any music available on the internet, I will likely never hear them. Humph. Serves them right!

Bimble, Monday, 7 May 2007 01:52 (eighteen years ago)

Their visa application was rejected, according to the DFA peeps. YAY HOMELAND SECURITYS

You can hear both sides of the new 7" at the DFA myspace:

they ae very very great. likely the best thing on DFA (LCD & black Leotard possible exceptions).

jed_, Monday, 7 May 2007 04:08 (eighteen years ago)

Hmm. Very much like the Fall. Not bad.

Bimble, Monday, 7 May 2007 04:15 (eighteen years ago)

new single 'up! up! up!' = dumbest great record of 2007 so far.

stirmonster, Monday, 7 May 2007 05:06 (eighteen years ago)

stir OTM

i hope there's another song as good as space invader on their album...

BleepBot, Monday, 7 May 2007 06:14 (eighteen years ago)

stirmonster, dumber than "Hamworthy Sports and Leisure Centre"?

jed_, Monday, 7 May 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

Album'z le4ked.

I can't help being reminded of Shampoo's Trouble every time the girl shouts :-)

StanM, Thursday, 28 June 2007 12:38 (eighteen years ago)

Half this album sounds like Skinned Teen WTF! These guys have totally missed my radar until now but I think I really like this

DJ Mencap, Friday, 6 July 2007 11:49 (eighteen years ago)

good album

groovemaaan, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 11:31 (eighteen years ago)

good band but let's be honest, this thread would not exist if not for DFA endorsement

i'm loving this but it's so odd and funny them being associated with DFA. there's osmethign about them that reminds me of ikara colt, a lot better. anyone remember the No Name "scene"? Yeh these dudes could have slipped right in.

acrobat, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

Good in small doses, tedious over the course of a full album.

n/a, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

One way to improve the album-listening experience is to shout questions back at the stereo, so it's like:

Hamworthy Sports and Leisure Center
WHAT IS THAT??
is a sports and leisure center
WHAT DID YOU SAY IT WAS CALLED?
Hamworthy Sports and Leisure Center
IS THAT A HOSPITAL OR SOMETHING?
is a sports and leisure center
OH, OKAY

nabisco, Monday, 13 August 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

The Youtube comments for their videos are hilarious- I don't know how something this innocuous can provoke SEETHING VISCERAL HATRED in so many people, but it does. IT ARE NOT REAL MUSICS, THEY JUST RIP OF THE WHIT STRIEPS

Telephone thing, Monday, 13 August 2007 22:19 (eighteen years ago)

Hobnail boots!
BOOTS? WHERE?
On the escalator!
THAT'S A TERRIBLE PLACE FOR HOBNAIL BOOTS! NOISY!
Beeswax, beeswax
WELL THAT MIGHT MUFFLE THE SOUND A BIT
Down the radiator
THAT'S WHY YOU SHOULDN'T LEAVE WAX ON HOT THINGS!

nabisco, Monday, 13 August 2007 22:47 (eighteen years ago)

Oh god, now you've got me doing it...

Telephone thing, Monday, 13 August 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

this just sounds like a not-terribly-good Fall to me

braveclub, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 00:34 (seventeen years ago)

They have all the little signifiers for "arty" neatly lined up, paradoxically making them really trad.

Bodrick III, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 00:43 (seventeen years ago)

i like it

electricsound, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 01:12 (seventeen years ago)

four years pass...

This is a good record.

LaMonte, Monday, 13 February 2012 01:43 (thirteen years ago)

Does it sound like the Fall? Keep meaning to listen to this on Spotify but have not yet done so.

curmudgeon, Monday, 13 February 2012 14:48 (thirteen years ago)

i played this a lot over and over again at first. it seemed to make the humor of it grate a little. maybe better to let it sound surprising from time to time?

j., Monday, 13 February 2012 23:33 (thirteen years ago)

Just listening to it for the first time now -- great at four songs in so I'll take that as a sign.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 16 February 2012 15:24 (thirteen years ago)

Underrated band.

Immediate Follower (NA), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 16:14 (ten years ago)

The record didn't hold up very well for me, but they were pretty entertaining live.

I really love this song from their largely-ignored mini album Home Economics

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-d9ou2QXsU

actually, the whole record is very good.
