"The Lethal Dose 50 (LD50) test involves the administration of a substance to a group of animals at increasing doses in order to determine the dose that kills 50 percent of the test subjects within a set time frame."

. . . which reminds me, I should start scanning that mound of Dunedin flyers/posters for faux-posterity reasons.

Um, I hope to have some mp3s up of my jazz quartet's album up in a couple of weeks.

dleone, Friday, 15 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The advantage of this page is that those wishing to provide tracks for the ILx comp might want to get some initial public reaction here. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 15 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is a song called Courting Miss Understood by my old group circa 1996. Shit, I have not made any music to speak of since then. Feedback is welcome, as long as it will not make me cry. No, that is not me rapping. I did the music.

While we're at it there are some photos to criticize if you want to. Take it easy on me. You are not allowed to make fun of the page itself, because it represents my first day of HTML learning. I just wanted to get the pics on there.

Ron Hudson, Friday, 15 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

lurker is correct, LD50 is the lethal dosage 50% test. duckling is in LD50, she plays keyboard and rants. i played a guitar (not lead).

duckling also has "futurians" mp3s at mp3.com.

mark s, Saturday, 16 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

By the way, most of that stuff is pushing ten years old, if not older. So, yeah...it's naive, and yeah, there's too many words in some of them, and YEAH, I didn't play particularly well. Still don't, for the most part. But it was fun to try.

Sean Carruthers, Saturday, 16 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

One MP3 now uploaded here . My final electroacoustic project from about ten years ago...recommended only if you can tolerate Metal Machine Music.

Sean Carruthers, Saturday, 16 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I just got a new computa and as a test, I made this leetle thing. Not sure what to call it or what to do with it. It is like one of those ashtrays that you're oddly fond of even though you have no idea why you made it since no one in your family ever smoked.

For those of you too young to remember :

gig = cumbersome old style sweaty, beery experience.

gooblar (gooblar), Friday, 23 June 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

Gooblar I bow before your one man bandhood. "The War Against Boring" sounds like a lost AC Newman song! Your vocals are really solid.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Friday, 23 June 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

I am listening to Gooblar as well and it's very good - kind of reminds me of the Boo Radleys (one of my fave bands so take that as you will).

Anti-Escapist League is very nice too. Like a sped-up Beta Band or something, but more jangly. Actually no it doesn't sound like Beta Band, more a lo-fi indie version of 65DaysOfStatic. I like it a lot!

Chemistry Experiment - yay, you'll probably hate me for this but bits of it remind me of Arcade Fire covering Voulez-Vous. It is very good indeed as well. The singer's voice is... surprising but not unwelcome - I was jsut expecting a different singing style for some reason.

Pashmina's thing cut off half way through so I couldn't really form an opinion - sorry!

So much talent on ILX!!

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 23 June 2006 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks, and thanks!

xpost "TWAB" was written in a something of a power-pop fever, induced by the release of Electric Version, so, good spot! (I say this only because no one else seems to point out those similarities)

"Carpenter's Cup" really good, Eppy!

gooblar (gooblar), Friday, 23 June 2006 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

Fetchboy, that first track is great! You shouldn't dump on it. Although I confess I was waiting for the grindcore bit :)

Eppy - you guys are really solid, and it's nice to hear really upfront, assertive vocals instead of bullshit anonymous yelping. (I'm thinking this as I listen to Raisin Bran)

cutty - wow, you guys are awesome. I hate to just dole out praise, but I was really impressed - kind of a halfway point between New Order and...dare I say it, the Dismemberment Plan/Q And Not U? I hear some D.C. qualities in the guitars and keyboards. "Big Guns" is like Le Tigre but good.

Shaun (shaun), Friday, 23 June 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks folks! "Carpenter's Cup" is mainly my musical partner's handiwork--my guitar part was one I came up with when I couldn't come up with a guitar part. It sounds all echoey because we recorded in the Walkmen's (old?) studio and those dudes love reverb.

I'm the son of an English professor, so I tend to enunciate. There is some yelping on the new album but it is about a Charles Baxter short story, kinda, so maybe it doesn't count?
