Stinkfist - The Grudge - Vicarious

I think the last three Tool albums all have a great opening track and I have been thinking about which one is the best. Stink ist I can listen to endlessly but The Grudge is an awesome track as well. And the new one is also brilliant. I don't take Undertow in, I don“t like it. Tool's greatness begins with Aenima. For my tastes, Stinkfist is the winner.

Pitchfork snobs/insecure cynics, please stay out of this.

I'd have to go with "The Grudge" myself -- in fact I think that's probably my favorite overall Tool song still, works as a summation of the band's strengths, as its own miniature epic and as one hell of an album opener.

Wow Ned! That was a quick one ... I was hoping you would answer! well, when I heard The Grudge first time around I was amazed. I think it's so brilliant...but Stinkfist edge's it (is that the word?) because of sentimental reasons I guess. Vicarious is still growing I think. Stinkfist is probably the most simple. But the latest verse (when all the power is released) always gives me goosebumbs.
ps. thanx for the chameleons reviews. I am hooked. Second Skin is a fokking great song!

Undertow is classic. One of the best cds from one of the best years of music, 1993. How can one deny such a great cd? It is less "progressive", with some of their strongest melodies. Prison Sex is just flat out funky. Man, I think I will throw it on right now.

I admit I like it when Dr. Baht and I can completely agree on something. I was actually humming various songs from it today.

I love Undertow as a whole, but I still think "Flood" is head and shoulders above the rest of the album. Probably my favorite Tool song. Period.

Stinkfist! there's something about that song i really love. i love the intro, especially. and the way the song builds and climaxes is so cathartic. the video is cool, too.

Undertow is really underrated, for the reasons bathology stated above.

Undertow is underrated because Sylvia Massey is not half the producer Dave Botrill is. Stinkfist I would have to say is my favorite album opener. So funny how he almost insults the listener on that song but who can argue the point.

Good point. Undertow's a fantastic record but it sounds like Danny Carey was using tin cans for a drum set.

three months pass...
The drums sound fantastic on the new record. it seems like that is becoming the main focus of their music. well i suppose the lyrical content is what the fans are really after, but the drums...wow!
