Brilliant. (Every so often that allhiphop.com daily spam comes in useful.)

Ice Cube is definitely the right guy to have his name on a scholarship. But I'm already getting visions of FoxNews making fodder out of this.

lol he was a gangsta rapper lmao

I always thought of him as more political than gangsta, at least he got more and more political and less gangsta as his career went on.

this is fuckin' awesome... N.W.A. had to go Cubeless originally 'cause Cube wanted to continue his studies in mechanical drafting (and didn't want any more drama from the organization). He went to UCLA for a while but I think he finished the degree at Arizona State. Ice Cube isn't really as street as a lotta other SoCal rappers but I could give a shit, I've always thought he was an excellent writer (even in the "dude you don't actually mean that do you" period that brought us "Horny Little Devil" et al, his chops were great) and I feel all fanboy stoked for him to get a scholarship named after him

It also makes a lot of sense since it's an entertainment biz scholarship and the man has made quite a career for himself in the biz. Am I wrong that he was one of the first people (and probably the most successful at it) to make the transition from rapper to film actor?

Ice T was there first I think...bottom line, if your name's got Ice in it, your chances are pretty good

though I haven't seen Just Ice in anything recently

"now, the title bitch don't apply to all women," to recall an Ice Cube line that which sadly found little purchase among those that came later

Me looking very poor, asking Cube very poor questions:

I was 20% of the white people who saw Ice Cube at the Apollo in Harlem once back in... '91 or so. It was easy to see us all - we were all in the row of tickets bought for press members.

His show was not much different than it was when he played Lollapalooza around that time with only one difference: he smiled a lot at Lolla.

I also remember not feeling intimidated at all despite the surroundings. Honestly, I felt more intimidated when being one of the few longhairs at a hardcore show than I did there. I think it was the ring of 5%-ers in their dark sunglasses. I remember thinking, "I wish those guys were there ringing the pit at CBs back in the day..."
