What do you think of him?

One of the better nu-italo producers, "Knockers," "Rendez Vous at Rimini", "Phaze Me," "Love Explosion," "Disco Lunar Module," - all pretty much mint. And they are all on his recently released compilation-album "Times Like These 1999-2006," although he certainly did not strike when the iron was hot.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 8 May 2006 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I'd say he's just about the best nu-Italo producer. If anyone was born in the wrong time, it was him (though I'm thankful to be spoiled now).

I'd add "Hills of Honolulu" to Gill's list. And I kind of like that he didn't strike while the iron was hot -- there's something about persevering with the Italo (and, really, boogie) thing now than, say two years ago, that reads sincere.

Great great great, very fine run of singles (which Michael and Richj already listed). I don't know about the "strike while hot", I mean none of the Bunker/Clone-affiliated nu-Italo producers (I-F/Legowelt/Bangkok Impact/Kassen/Seymour Bits/Rude 66) ever made it big, and within that scene Alden has pretty similar standing.

I really like 'There May Be Dark Days Ahead' from the awesome Box Jams comp on Clone.

I totally recommend the "Times Like These 1999-2006" comp. I've played it a lot. Certainly more than I thought I would after first getting it.

I don't know about the "strike while hot"

Well, relatively hot...I think Gill meant that the compilation arrives years into the Italo revival and doesn't have the hip quotient that it would have a few years ago. Of course, that Tyrell's keeping on just goes to show his dedication to the sound and proves that it's exactly the kind of music he should be making.

Oh and now that you mention Legowelt, I think he might actually be my favorite nu-Italo guy just for the pronounced sense of humor. Tyrell comes in a close second.

I love Alden Tyrell and the whole Clone/Bunker scene. They still sound fresh now, whereas the other Italo revivalists (Kiko etc) have dated pretty badly.
